Meet Ellie Mae

Current Location: Frederick, MD

Sweet Sensitive Blossoming

Ellie Mae is a beautiful, gentle girl who is learning every day that the world is not so scary after all. Her confidence has grown tremendously, and her foster mom says she just had her best day yet. She walked six miles on the trail, happily letting bikes, joggers, scooters, and strollers pass with calm curiosity. Deer, however, are still suspicious characters in her book, so she politely turned around and took another route.

Energy and Personality
Ellie Mae has balanced energy. She loves her walks, enjoys being outdoors, and is learning that new experiences can be fun. She's affectionate with her people and happiest when she feels safe and loved. After a good day of adventure, she curls up for a well-earned nap, tongue adorably hanging out.

Training and Behavior
She's a work in progress, but her progress is impressive. She's learning to stay calm around activity and responds beautifully to positive reinforcement. Homemade sweet potato treats and cheese are her favorite motivation. She alerts when people or dogs go by her home, but that's just her keeping an eye on things. Ellie Mae is still working on feeling secure when left alone, so crate time or a safe, enclosed space is best for now. Once she settles into a new home, she will likely be fine with more freedom.

Social Life
Ellie Mae enjoys the company of other calm dogs and loves to play when she's in the mood. She's polite meeting dogs on walks and cautious but gentle around people. She can still be wary of children, especially when they move quickly or make loud noises, so a home with kids 13 and older would be best.

Best Home Fit
Ellie Mae will thrive in a calm, loving home with patient adopters who can continue her slow, steady journey toward confidence. She'll make a wonderful walking buddy, loyal friend, and loving companion. Once she feels safe, she'll happily nap by your side, play with toys, and melt into her person's affection.

Ellie Mae has come so far, and she's ready to keep blossoming with a family who will love her just as she is.
