Eli May is an energetic, beautiful, young, blonde who used to live on a farm but she has not yet struck it rich ... in finding her forever home. She was not getting along with the older, farm dog so her humans dropped her off at the shelter. She was born in January 2016 and, at just six months old, she did not understand why she had to leave her home and why she was suddenly imprisoned. Like any kindergartner, she began to misbehave. Luckily, a foster home became available so she was able to return to a home environment where she is learning how to be a good dog. She is a Bone-Mouth Shar Pei mix who weighs ~55 lbs. She is quick to attach to her human. She is curious but likes to stay close to her human. You can see her in action here - - Scene 1 – Move to Foster:

Some of her good points are:
• She knows sit.
• She knows come.
• She knows (lay) down.
• She knows give me paw.
• She knows on and off.
• She is treat motivated.
• She walks well on a leash.
• She is crate trained.
• She is housebroken.
• She sleeps through the night.
• She leans in for hugs.
• She is calm and quiet in a crate in a vehicle.
• She takes treats nicely from your hand.
• She catches treats that are tossed to her.
• She likes to play fetch with a ball, stick, or Kong.
• She will play search and find with a hidden, treat filled Kong.
• She is super quiet. She rarely barks.
• She is very appreciative. She sneaks in kisses when you give her food or affection, fill her water bowl, or when you are just walking past her.
• THAT FACE!! Her cute, wrinkly forehead. Her tiny, flopped ears. Her soulful, golden eyes with perfect eyeliner.

Eli May would benefit greatly from additional, positive, professional training. She still has a little naughty puppy inside that shows itself sometimes. The naughty puppy will dig, zoom through the house, and possibly nip purely to get her human’s attention. Her other growth opportunity involves interacting appropriately with dogs. She mistakes a clear correction from a dog that does not want to play as an invitation to play. With less confident dogs that want to play she becomes demanding/overwhelming. Therefore, she cannot be taken to a dog park or any other location where she is allowed to interact off leash with another dog.

The world is very new to Eli May and she loves to explore so her ideal home will be with a regular runner, walker, or hiker who has time to spend being active with her. For example, she is just now lying down when chewing on a stick or toy after six months in foster. After 15 months in foster she is just now lying on a dog bed and resting when not crated. Her home must have a secure, fenced yard. She chews a little so she must be housed inside and in a crate when left alone. Her home must not contain children or elderly as her jumping, running between legs, and mouthing will be especially dangerous for those individuals. Her home must not contain other pets as she views everything as a game and/or something to chase. She is super happy because everything is a new and fun for her.

More good stuff. As a Sheltered Paws pup:
• She is spayed.
• She is up to date on shots (incuiding rabies shot).
• She has tested negative for heartworm.
• She is microchipped.
• She comes with a 2018 Hamilton County dog license (good in surrounding counties).

If you want to be her special human please complete an adoption application first. Go to fill out the application online using the blue 'adoption application' button on the Sheltered Paws adoption page or go to to access the Adoption Form Questionnaire. If you have specific questions not covered above you can email her foster family at
