Meet Eli-I1854

Eli-I1854 came to rescue as a stray.
7.7.20 update: Eli is much less reactive to other dogs and situations. When folks visit at the foster home, he does not even bark. He barks very little at other dogs at this time. But he does have an internal clock that tells his foster mom when it is breakfast and dinner time. He does bark a little at that time. His manners have improved and he can sit and wait for his meal with the food dish within inches from his feet; waits at the door while the door is opened and closed many times before the command-OK is given to him. He shakes and takes treats-much better than before. still a little rough when taking treats but does not eat fingers.

It was evident from day one, his previous owner(s) gave him no rules and boundaries or training. He has come a long ways since arriving in rescue July of 2018. He is reactive to other dogs but is learning that he does not need to react "out of control". His foster mom is working on keeping him calm and doing basic obedience with him. He can now be around other dogs and we hope one day he can be in a home with another dog. We do not recommend a home with children under 16 years of age.

When once he reacted to all dogs, he reacts to new dogs or situations in his foster home. When someone comes to the house of his foster mom, he may bark but it is more for attention than because he is upset or reacting to a new person. If the handler remains calm and rewards him for being a "good boy" he will calm down very quickly. Remaining calm is the secret to this dog or any reactive dog. Praising him when he is listening, being good, calm and doing what you are requesting is a KEY to his behavior changing and becoming the dog he was meant to be. He is very smart, wants to please, wants to learn and a quick learner. He is very affectionate and wants a attention and love.

He is completely vaccinated including his microchip and neuter. He requires someone with German Shepherd experience of a reactive dog. You must have a 6' fenced yard to allow Eli to get exercise. He loves to play ball and spend time with a human. He is ready to find his furever home. His DOB is 7.25.16 and his adoption fee is $350.00

We do not allow dogs to live outside or be tied or tethered. German Shepherds are herding dogs and underground fence systems do not work for them. It does not keep them safe or keep others from entering the property. Please if you have the above items, do not apply for this dog. If you are a serious adopter, please go to www.faerielandrescue.org on the home page.
