Meet Eli
Eli is my name and cuddles are my game. At least, once I get to know you. And I'm hoping I will. You see, I need a new forever home or even a foster would be great. The family I live with now adopted me from OCAC shelter when I was just 5 months old. This month (March 2021), I turned 7. Just after my birthday my family reached out to the vet to see about having me EUTHANIZED because they think they're too old to take care of me anymore. Since I am the epitome of health, a young 7 really, the vet said no to euthanasia (thanks Doc) and instead put my family in touch with the folks at K9 Kismet Dog Rescue to see if they could help me land in a new home. They've taken the challenge head on! They recently sent one of their representatives out to meet with me and after spending some time together she described me as enthusiastic, friendly, engaging and intelligent (clearly an excellent judge of character).
Since my new friends at K9 Kismet are still getting to know me, as I hope you do too, I've told them the basics. In a nutshell...
Health: Neutered, current on vaccines and flea & tick prevention. No known health issues. Recently had dental.
Behavior: He is basically brilliant. House trained. Extremely food motivated. He is non-destructive when left alone and may bark for a few minutes after you leave but calms himself down. Does not walk well on leash and can be reactive to other dogs while on leash. Can be protective of his person. Has not been exposed to cats. Best in a home without kids. Will bark to let you know when someone is arriving and will bark at strangers entering the home, but will warm up to people after a few minutes or additional visits. He is not a fan of car rides. Will thrive with training and structure!!
Likes: He enjoys running around, playing with toys, and being a lap dog once he's warmed up. He likes to hang out on the couch and watch TV when he's not playing.
