Meet Eileen

Eileen is a miracle.

Eileen was abandoned with her brother Elliott in Southeast Missouri and during her spay surgery, it was discovered she had a Diaphragmatic Hernia, which most likely occurred when hit by a vehicle.

Eileen had emergency surgery on Monday, 12/21, and has bounced back quickly. She is anxious to get her life moving forward and a family of her very own is at the top of her holiday list.

Eileen has the best personality and temperament, constantly giving kisses and leaning in for pets. She will crawl right in your lap as if she is a tiny lap dog.

Did we mention Eileen is absolutely gorgeous? Her photos do not do her justice.

Eileen survived a vehicle incident, her heart slowing during prep to be spayed and then emergency diaphragmatic hernia surgery. The universe must have something very special planned for her.

IF SERIOUS, PLEASE APPLY AT WWW.K9EI.DOG, DO NOT SEND PETFINDER INQUIRIES.

Update:
Happy Holidays,

We asked people on her Petfinder Bio to not Petfinder inquiry with us as we do not return those inquiries and instead apply for the dog. We received a dozen applications for Eileen within an hour of posting her and we review the applications for approval in the order we receive them. Once we have approved applications we make calls to interview potential adopters.

Our adoption application is located online at www.k9ei.dog. If your application is approved, you will be given the opportunity to meet the dog following an interview.

I can tell you that Eileen has 4 weeks of recovery ahead of her which entails crate rest, leash walking to potty, and then back inside the home, she must wear the cone for 4 weeks to protect against licking her incision which is large. The incision must be kept dry and checked for infection daily. She needs to have an ice pack held on the incision 3 times daily to keep swelling down for the first 7 days following surgery.

Eileen should not climb stairs or be jumping to prevent the stretching of her skin where the incision runs along the whole of her body. It's vital to her recovery to not developing an infection or the opening of the incision.

She is 9 months old and even with her breathing taxed before surgery, she was a very active dog. She is a mix of Great Pyrenees and mystery dog, she is small compared to a purebred GP. She does have the sense to wander away from home as they were bred to be on ranches/farms protecting livestock. When healed she will need exercise and adventure to keep her happy.

She is not trained in any way shape or form. Most likely she and her brother were put out by breeders or wandered away from the breeder's home. The surgeon's best guess is she was struck by a vehicle that pushed her stomach, liver, and intestine up into her ribcage placing pressure on the heart.

The surgery consisted of removing the organs and placing them in their correct position, mending the diaphragm, removing scar tissue, performing a second surgery of sewing her stomach into place to prevent bloating, and then they finished by spaying her.

Despite the intensive surgeries, she returned to her happy go lucky self by the late night. Tail wagging, smiles, walked outside the hospital to potty, eating fine and allowing for icing of the incision 3 times a day.

This is all we know about Eileen, her brother is very much similar and doing well in his foster to adopt home. He has the same fun-loving free spirit personality. We do not know how she is with other animals, she shows no reaction to dogs passing her in the hospital cage, nor has she been around children.

Thank you for your interest,

Cynthia
