--------

I'm Eddie Van Poodle! That's what my foster mom calls me. My rescue lady called me Kibo when I arrived (it means "hope" in Japanese) but we like Eddie VP much better. ;)

The shelter called my rescue lady to say they had a German Wirehaired Pointer mix for her and a friend went to get me for her. She was a little surprised when she saw me! Turns out I'm probably a purebred medium-size apricot poodle.

And I need some TLC. So here I am with the pointer pack, getting my confidence back, learning to go in and out with the other dogs, and trying to understand that no one's going to hit me ever again.

I need a patient, secure home with at least a couple of other dogs to give me confidence. I'm about 9 years old so I have a lot of years to overcome and learn to trust again. Cats are fine - I just ignore them. Kids are way too stressful for me. Please email utahsperfectpointers@yahoo.com if you think you have the perfect home for me.

You can see my coat evolution over 2.5 months in the first composite photo. I was groomed shortly before I was turned into the shelter (twice). By the time I got to Utah's Perfect Pointers my coat had grown out considerably and was long and soft and curly (and matted). My foster mom took me to her groomer who did a great job on me. My coat grows out every 6 weeks or so, so I'll need a home that can keep me groomed or find a good, gentle groomer to work with me.

There's a good idea of what my coat looked like when I got to UPP in phhoto 2. Lots and lots of curls! My approximate DOB is 7/13/2010. I'm 18" tall at my withers and 35 lbs. The perfect size!

I'm starting to like these pointer things (photo 3). They're good to me and I'm learning to pack up with them to go inside and outside. It's way too scary to go in and out all by myself.

I'm really enjoying old Tama, the English Pointer girl. (She's hot! ;)

FROM MY RESCUE LADY:
He's an interesting little guy. It takes him a while to feel comfortable in new surroundings, but having other dogs around makes that process much easier for him. I don't know how he'll be with little dogs. I've only had him around dogs 45+ lbs. He really likes pointer types. He's probably never going to be a dog you can take offleash on trails. He's always going to be too skittish for that kind of adventure. But he loves going on leash walks.

He is in excellent physical health. About his emotional status:
- he loves being with other dogs - the more the better once he gets to know them. He absolutely must go to a home with at least one other dog.
- after being with me on and off for over a year he's still not comfortable being petted by me all the time. He's starting to like it and will lift a back leg when he's lying down so I can pet his tummy, but it took a long time to get to that stage.
- he's learned from the other dogs that breakfast and supper time are communal events and he'll race to his bed in the living room and wait there while I get everyone's food ready
- he sleeps through the night nicely with the other dogs. Occasionally he'll put his front paws up on the bed but he hasn't acquired the self confidence to jump up there yet.
- new situations are still scary for him. He'll need a lot of time and patience from his people to adjust to any new living situation.
- absolutely no children (fear - not aggression).
- he's better with women than he is with men.
- we've had the most difficult time with his house training. He's never pooped in the house but he still thinks it's just fine to mark his territory, including one of my spayed girl dogs who is totally unappreciative of this acknowledgement by him. So am I. I've started putting a belly band on him when he comes to my house. His foster mom doesn't belly band him because she has a dog door - which doesn't facilitate him not annointing the bottom of her couch at all.

Because of Eddie's fragile emotional status he needs to be adopted close enough to Salt Lake City that I can assist with his assimilation into a new home.
