If you are hip to my combination of breed genetics, you know that I love to work hard and play hard and that I love to be where my people are. Dogs like me are smart and quick to learn but my friendship is earned. That is not to say I don’t like people but it’s MY people that I am devoted to and it is my duty to be steadfast in that devotion them. If you take a chance on me, I promise, with guidance, I will be the best dog I can be for you. It’s in my genes. It can’t be helped.
I want a home where people do things or where I have a real live job.
Don’t get me wrong. There is a time and a place for couches and movies and rainy-day books but the world is full of excitement, adventure and things to do that I am good at. I want a person who finds the world just as interesting and worthy of exploration as I do. We could go camping or hiking or fishing or even canoeing if you taught me how. That sounds so fun. If you own a farm, I could guard the perimeter and bring the stock in. Maybe we could go swimming and play fetch in the watering hole or perhaps you need me to be navigator on the John Deer.
I CAN DO ALL THAT!!!
Just show me how you want it done. I want be part of a team and I will work from daybreak to sundown for a pat on the head and a bowl of kibble and think I have the best life ever.
I am a herding dog mix. It’s what we do.
Okay Okay Okay. I admit it. I am not without baggage. I am an intense guy. I am attracted to things that move. I can’t help it. THAT’s in the genetics too. I work hard, play hard and love hard. I need rules backed by firm guidance. People who just want to shove treats in my mouth all day and let me do what I want, well, they don’t work out so well with my kind. We just get fat and then take over
Oh and another thing. I don’t really appreciate strangers invading my territory if I don’t have an escape route. I was chased from place to place before I was rescued so pushy strangers make me nervous. I have never hurt anybody and I don’t want to but when I am cornered by someone I don’t know, I am going to ask questions the only way I know how; with my mean voice and my mean smile. I am only asking “What are you doing? I don’t know you. I am not comfortable with you so close to me so please go away”.
I guess some people find that a flaw and perhaps it is but I don’t do it all the time. Just when I am in my kennel and some stranger wants to come inside and pet me. But Dude! That is so rude. What would YOU do if I just walked into your house uninvited and you had never seen me before?
So there it is. I am not perfect.
What I am is, a very young five years old. I am neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and solidly housebroken. I am super healthy, crate trained, leash trained, great on trips, energetic, happy, unique with my one blue eye and in my opinion, quite handsome, thank you very much. I am adventurous, devoted, smart, quick to learn and I will keep your property free of vermin, cats and strangers who don’t belong. I will play fetch with you until my heart explodes. I love having dog friends but I’m not beyond getting into scraps with them either, if they want to push the issue. I will stay by your side for as long as you let me but when you leave me behind, I will wait quietly for you to come home. I will like your friends if you want me to, make bad guys nervous if you want me to and I will defend you with my life, should the situation arise…no questions asked, whether you want me to or not because...
…I am a herding dog mix and all the traits that go with that. It’s who we are. It’s what we do.
