Domino Labrador Retriever Mix Clayton, NC

UPDATE: Domino is back with his foster, as his adoption wasn't a good fit for all. We don't consider that a failure though! It just helped us learn more about his needs.

What we learned:

1) He will need a fenced in yard and might be best placed with another dog, although in the right situation he may be okay being an only dog.
2) He’ll need a family who is committed to getting him the exercise he needs - he’s an active boy but is very chill and easy going if he has his energy needs met. He’ll need a family with older kids - he plays hard and might steamroll little kids just due to his energy. He would also be fine in a family with no kids.
3) Domino is wary of some men at first, so he will need patience from the new man in his life as he grows his comfort and learns to trust him. However, he is EXTREMELY loyal and bonds strongly to his humans once you earn his trust. He does come around to them very quickly when they just ignore him and don’t foster his insecurity.
4) Still working on his crate training. He is a young, energetic dog and can be destructive if not crated so he needs to continue this training so that he has a safe place to unwind and be calm.

Domino is a stunning, lean lab mix around 1 year old and 40lbs. His foster describes him as a total cuddle bug! But that doesn't mean he is a couch potato! This boy has a lot of energy and is very active. He loves to play with other dogs so he'd be best in a home with doggie playmates and an active family. He will go all day, but once he is worn out he loves to snuggle and will sleep all night.

Domino is a smart boy - and housetrained quickly! Like many smart dogs, they can be too smart for their own good though! He is one to watch, as he is still learning not to counter surf, what is appropriate to chew on and will get himself into trouble like many young dogs will. But he is doing well with crate training so he has a safe place to be when no one is home to keep an eye on him.

Domino has a strong prey drive, so he will not do well in a home with cats or other small critters. He does well on a leash, but can get too excited when passing other dogs so he needs a firm handler. He's an all around beautiful young dog who will thrive in a home with an active owner and consistent guidance. Apply to meet this gorgeous boy today!
