12/7/2014: Dixie is an adorable 3 year old Lab/Hound mix. She's very fun and she's a big goofy girl. She's also very affectionate. She is playful and she loves, loves, loves to play fetch! She also likes to swim in the baby pool. BE SURE TO WATCH DIXIE'S VIDEO!

Dixie has been to obedience classes at The Dogs' Spot in Gladstone. She is extremely food-motivated and a fast learner. Her favorite food: corn dogs, courtesy of her favorite volunteer. Dixie knows a lot of commands and is in Canine Good Citizen class.

Dixie was a stray and was brought to us after she had puppies on somebody's porch. She was emaciated at the time. She's gained weight and looks great now. She weighs about 75 lbs.

Dixie is overall very friendly and outgoing, but she will occasionally act unsure around someone she doesn't know. She'd benefit from additional obedience training and more socialization. Someone who has some dog experience would be a better match for her. We don't want to place her in a home with children.

Dixie would do best as the only pet. She believes that she has plenty of character and love to go around, so there's no need for her to share a home with other pets! She is very choosy about her doggie friends, and not good with cats. However, we take her on pack walks and she is able to walk near other dogs in the pack without a problem.

Dixie truly is a character. She's been with us for quite some time and we'd love to find her a home. She has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for heartworms.

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our dogs, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the dog home with you that same day.
