Meet Dixie

Up for adoption is Dixie. She is an extremely intelligent, treat motivated, 1 year old female Catahoula/Mountain Cur mix. She loves toys and will play fetch til the cows come home! She is also content chewing on nylabones in the presence of her humans. She would do best in a home with no cats or small dogs and older or no children.

Surrendered to our municipal animal control by the only people she ever knew on Christmas Eve 2021. She had just turned one year old on 12/21/21.

Currently 58 pounds of pure puppy.

Easy to train but obviously has not had much training before. She knows several words already including potty, treat, sit, stay, outside, in, down, no, stop, ball, toys, and kennel.

After her vetting was complete she was adopted out fairly quickly to a local couple but returned on day 4 because she got ahold of the resident cat. No injuries but no cats or small animals and older children would be best.

Dixie is very athletic and LOVES the snow. She will hide toys in snow drifts and then dig them out. She walks decent on leash in a harness but will need refresher once adopted. She would make a great running partner. I have no way of testing but I suspect she loves water sports too.

She is friendly with big dogs through the fence but they are not allowed to interact at the pound. Dixie is not a barker. I’ve actually never heard her bark. She will whine when she wants your attention.

Dixie is extremely stressed in the animal control environment and grieving her former life. She desperately wants to connect with humans, play fetch, and play with toys in the presence of humans.

She gets several short (15-30 minutes each) play times most days but could definitely use a lot more exercise and will do best in an active home.

Dixie has been spayed, rabies vaccinated, heartworm tested and microchipped. Dixie’s adoption fee is $130. Call 217-728-2018 to set up a time to meet her and fill out an application with the link below. https://www.moultriecountyil.com/MCAC%20Adoption%20Form%202020.docx
