Dixie, formerly known as Asia, came into Fulton County as a stray with a prolapsed vagina. Even with her clearly painful and uncomfortable prolapse, Dixie proved to be very sweet and non-reactive to other dogs. She just wants visitors and company all the time. She is a true "pocket-pittie," weighing in at only 37 pounds and she is full grown. On top of the prolapse, Dixie is heartworm positive. Dixie needed to get out of the pound quickly and luckily we had a foster step up and she got her freedom ride on 3/29/2019.
Dixie's prolapse was repaired and she was spayed immediately upon intake. Her heartworms have also been treated. This little lady has the exuberance and happiness of youth. She is a great car rider as she enjoys sitting and looking around until she becomes tired and lays down. She is a total clown and will try to open the windows if your child-lock is not on. Dixie likes to pull all of the Nylabones out of the basket and spread them around at play time. She will chew and toss them around for entertainment. Fetch with the tennis ball and tug with a rope toy are also good fun for her. She likes to follow her humans around to watch them complete their house chores. Dixie loves her doggie friends so much that she likes to give kisses during the first meeting and she is always ready to play chase with them. She also loves meeting new people and is always ready for love and attention. She's hasn't met a stranger because in her eyes, all people are exciting and fun to be around. Dixie can keep up with whatever outdoor activity you are into whether it's walking, running, or hiking. At times she has puppy moments, but is catching on quickly with manners and wants to please her humans. Dixie even passed her baby test with flying colors! She spent some time with a 5 month old and was mindful and gentle. She did not jump on mom while she was holding the baby, she was unphased when the baby got upset, also unphased by the stroller, and left the baby toys alone. Dixie spends time regularly with the elderly as well. She knows her manners and has learned to be mindful of wheelchairs and walkers. She has great leash manners and will walk beside or even behind you (or next to a stroller). If a squirrel or bunny runs out in front of her, she is interested in chasing it, however she responds quickly to correction and forgets about it. She also passes by other dogs on walks with ease - she just wags her tail likes she's excited to see them. Even if the other dog is acting up, Dixie is still a well-mannered lady. She is even happy to accompany her people to lunch on a patio and she prefers to lounge around under the table. She is not a nuisance barker and typically only barks if the doorbell rings. Sweet Dixie even met a cat and was great about keeping a respectful distance even when he walked around the room. Dixie is a young, boisterous girl and the world is her oyster! She is a silly girl ready to entertain a forever family of her very own.
