Here is more about Diesel!
9-year-old, 58-pound Lab mix
House-Trained: Yes – does well on a schedule and lets you know if he needs to go out.
Crate-Trained: Yes – does well in his kennel when you are out.
Other Dogs: Yes – he is leash/barrier reactive (means he may whine, pull, or bark at other dogs while on leash or behind a fence). However, he is classic Lab and loves to play with other dogs off leash/unobstructed. He will pull out every toy he has to entice his dog playmates! Slow intros would be great for Deezy and resident dog(s).
Kids and Cats: We were told he did well with kids and cats prior to coming to Pet Haven. Slow introductions for the win!
Health: Deezy does suffer from some allergies that his foster and he are working through. He is currently on anti-itch meds and RX food for these allergies. It is likely he will need his allergies treated through medicine and food for the rest of his life.
Deezy is sweet, goofy and respectful. A quick study who knows sit, down, wait, shake and off. We are working on recall, leave it, and slip lead training too! He does great in the car and at the vet. He came from a home that did not have time or resources for him and found himself spending more time in his kennel than any dog should. He was rescued by a family member who intended to keep him forever until unfortunately, they found out they were severely allergic to him. He is now searching for his forever home that will be full of love, patience, routine and stability.
He LOVES his humans and each person he meets is his new best friend, indictive of his tail wagging. He loves playing with other dogs off leash/unobstructed, but with continued slip lead training, he will gain confidence knowing you, his handler, will have his back and keep him safe when meeting other dogs on leash. Slip lead training should be continued in his forever home.
He is a mischief maker and barker if left to his own devices. Because he is vocal with barks, whines, and grumbles, in the most endearing way, apartments or shared wall living spaces would not be an option for him. And while he would love a fenced yard for his golden years, it is not required.
He is a wonderful, wonderful dog and truly an amazing companion. He deserves a loving home that will take care of him! He would do well with a confident and playful resident dog, preferably female but I do not believe a resident male dog is a deal breaker. Children should be dog savvy. He is a great mix of snuggle bug and energy. He loves getting in a few walks every day, playing with rope toys, taking part in what his family is doing, and playing with his foster sister! Please do not pass up an opportunity to adopt this dog! He is the true essence of a buddy for life.
His adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, & Bordetella), HW and flea/tick preventative, and microchip implant and registration.
There is no guarantee of age and breed as a rescue animal's history is unknown. All ages and breeds are best guess.
Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%.
Due to post-adoption services provided, it is Pet Haven's policy to only place dogs into homes within a 75-mile radius of the Minneapolis, MN city center.
