Dickens Dachshund Portland, OR

Dickens is a 7 month old, dapple dachshund. He is a "tweenie" and is already 14lbs (although he could stand to lose a pound according to the vet).

This boy is very sweet but was born during the pandemic and has not been socialized with people or other dogs. He is looking for a home that has experience with anxious dogs who can be patient with him. We think he was fed table scraps, or at least a lot of dog treats, which is why he is uninterested in most dog food. His foster is working on giving him fresh delicious food that is healthy (We're happy to report he does like broccoli). His forever home will have to continue feeding fresh food and watching his weight.

He is in the "chewing" phase of his puppy hood, so all furniture look like big, fun toys to him. In addition, he is still working on his potty training (He often poops inside when it's cold or wet). Finally, Dickens is a barker- A loud one at that. He barks whenever he wants something or just wants your attention.

In summary, this lovable, sweet and playful boy is not a first-time starter dog (even though he's adorable).

Requirements:
1) Home with a securely fenced yard (no apartments will be considered due to his barking)
2) No young children (9+ years) in the home since he is a nervous dog and we don't know if he will nip.
3) The other dog(s) in the home should be calm, well-adjusted and easy going. Placing him with another anxious dog would only increase his own nervous behavior.
4) New owner should be committed to enrolling Dickens in training classes to continue his socialization and behavioral work
5) No first-time dog owners as this dog needs someone who has experience with dogs and/or the unique challenges of the breed
