Meet Deputy

Some dogs end up at a shelter because they don't display the traits for which they were bred. That is not the case with Deputy, a male Bluetick Coonhound with an estimated DOB of 2/2013. Coonhounds are bred to track and trail Raccoons, and when Deputy escaped one day he went right for the den of some raccoons, bayed to let us know where he was, and he did not leave. Deputy clearly has the traits of his breed! He is very intelligent and can problem solve: case in point, he will escape a fence that he can find a way to climb. Coonhounds are typically friendly toward people and with people they are gentle and affectionate dogs. Deputy is about 50 pounds of pure muscle, so he needs someone strong to walk him. He has the typical Coonhound bay, and he bays frequently, so an apartment is not an appropriate home. Clearly Deputy is not for everyone, but he will be a good family/companion dog for someone who can accommodate the breed.

The handsome Deputy is part of the #getemhome2018 challenge since he's been at the shelter over 30 days. If you adopt this great boy, his portrait goes home with you as well.
