Denver had been pulled a couple of years ago by us from our local shelter where he had been down there for 4 months. He was such a good dog at the Shelter, they used him as their behavior test dog with other dogs! We adopted him out over 2 years ago but unfortunately he was returned. He was well loved and cared for but the owner had to move and was no longer able to take to free dog day care to get his energy out. He had to be left during the day in a crate and Denver could not tolerate that.
Then we adopted him out again to a wonderful home with 4 young kids all under the age of 10. Denver did just fine with all the kids, no issues there. But all that activity, noise, etc. seemed to cause stress and anxiety for Denver. According to the Mom, he was anxious and usually didn’t want to really stay where all the kids were. He was great during the day when he and the other dog were just there or just the adults were there but they could tell he could not relax when there was so much activity going on in the home. They feared they were causing him more harm than good. So Denver is again back with us.
Here what they said about Denver in this home:
He is very good riding in the car and on a leash. Denver is a good watchdog and will bark when someone approaches the door. He enjoys running and likes to chase other dogs and be chased by friends. Denver will chase cats but doesn’t attack them. He’s a great dog but be warned: he will get stuff off the counters if he can reach it!! And he will get things out of your sink, dishes, thawing meat, cups, etc.
Denver is a very social, sweet, fun-loving active dog. He loves walking, hiking, swimming, dog parks and of course belly rubs and coach cuddling. He seems to do just fine with other dogs, cats and children. Now sometimes he doesn't like to share his toys with other dogs so will need to watch that.
Denver is currently going through two weeks of training at dog camp and doing great! He is learning tons and is a great listener!
Denver is a super dog but he just doesn't like being crated for a long period of time - that is most of the day and all night. He will do best having a yard to run around and play in during the day or for a good part of the day (or dog day care) and then can be crated at night for sleeping. He is active and will need to get that energy out of him. He is too big and active for an apartment. Denver’s next home will be a calmer home with either no or adult children. He will require a fenced in yard.
Denver is up to date on his vet care, neutered,
heartworm negative and is microchipped. He is on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Thank goodness dogs are so adaptive and live in the moment - this will help Denver as he adjusts to his new situation and then to another new home!
