With a guesstimated birthday in Jan. 2021, Delilah weighed about 46 lb in May 2022. We've included a picture of the adult female rescued from the same home that might have been her mom. Delilah & this little lady are about the same height, but there's no other resemblance.
Delilah lives in a foster home with other dogs and cats. Her previous foster also had children. She was rescued as a youngster from owners that left her scavenging for food. She has some anxiety from this and would prefer a secure, stable home.
In Delilah's new foster home (May 2022), she gets along with the other dogs, primarily ignoring them. She has some food aggression, so is fed in her crate. Considering her background this is understandable. At her previous foster she was outside during dinner time and had to compete with other dogs. She's learning that no one is going to touch her food. When her new foster family eats dinner, she's crated so there will be no stress. Dogs aren't fed from the table, but she doesn't understand that yet.
Delilah is leash-trained, with pulling only when she's excited. She hasn't had an accident in the house when kept on a regular schedule. She's learning that a crate is a good place, but still waits for her foster mom to toss a "cookie" in before she'll go inside. She crates all night without a peep, but will cry piteously if her fosters go out to walk other dogs without her.
Delilah has decided that her foster dad is the best guy in town and prefers to walk with him rather than foster mom. Although when he isn't around, she's happy to let anyone walk her.
April 2020: We are not holding public adoption events until further notice. Qualified families are being invited to appointments to meet specific dogs. There are currently no opportunities to view multiple dogs and adoption events aren't being held at Tractor Supply in Lenoir.
Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.
If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.
A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.
Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be required if, using our veterinarian or same-day surgery, service is scheduled through our organization. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.
We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.petpartnersrescue.org.
