Delilah Australian Cattle Dog / Blue Heeler Mix Saint Louis, MO

Sweet Delilah, an Aussie/cattle dog mix, is looking for a family who will love and cherish her. Through unfortunate circumstances, she has had 4 homes in the past 4 years, including time at a city shelter. That hasn’t stopped her from loving and trusting people, however, as she adores her humans. We’re told she’s around 10 years, but you’d never know it by her energy level and love of playing.

Delilah’s foster mom says she loves to play fetch and run in the yard. She loves squeaky toys, especially her squeaky pig. She enjoys going on walks and likes to explore. She hasn’t met a stranger and is excited to see people on walks. Sometimes she’s a little too excited and wants to jump on people but stops when reminded about all 4 on the floor. She loves to be near her person but isn’t anxious or needy about it. She also loves soft things, like chairs, couches, beds, and her memory foam dog bed. When her foster parents are tired from playing, Delilah sometimes makes her own fun by chasing her tail. She’s only actually caught it once, then looked at foster mom as if to say, “what is this?”

She knows her basic commands and is happy to show you “sit”, “stay”, “paw”, and “down”. Her foster family says she can be trusted out in the house when they’re gone, and they haven’t had to crate her. She is completely housetrained.

Delilah will be an excellent companion for someone who can give her all the love and attention. She needs to be the only dog in the home and cannot live with cats. She was not given proper opportunity to exercise in her prior home, so she’s been working on getting back to a better weight and has made great progress. She’s working on losing another 10-15 pounds (currently 68) and will need her family’s help to do this. After the first few days in her foster home, realizing there was no 24-hour all-you-can-eat buffet, she’s settled into and really enjoys her exercise routine.

Delilah has been given a clean bill of health from our vet. She is up to date on all vaccines, spayed, microchipped and heartworm negative. She is on monthly heartworm, flea and tick preventatives.
