Meet Darwin

Meet Darwin! This little guy (2-years-old/26-pounds) needed our help! He came into a rural Alabama shelter, with an old injury to his right rear leg or hip. Our wonderful vet at Underdog will help him on his road to recovery! Darwin is so sweet and loving! He doesn't let his injury stop him. When he's outside, he'll do his business, then come inside and just want to go straight back out. In the house, he is pretty chill, loves to cuddle, and keeps to himself. He will probably feel a lot better, after his leg injury is healed! Darwin is great in the car, but passing cars do make him nervous. He is great with dogs and cats. He's playful with other dogs and would do great with an active family. Darwin is very gentle, so he would be great with children as well!

Update 3/26/19, Darwin unfortunately tested positive for heartworm disease. He got this by being bitten by an infected mosquito. He is not contagious to other dogs (but all dogs should be on heartworm prevention monthly, year-round to prevent infection/reinfection). Underdog has started Darwin on treatment for heartworm, and with proper after-care, he will fully recover. His adopter will simply need to bring Darwin to scheduled treatment appointments and keep him CALM (with strict crate rest or supervised relaxation) post treatment injections (for 2-3 months). We provide adopters with instructions and will cover needed meds. Dogs who are treated for heartworm have a positive likelihood of recovery when post-treatment instructions and rest are followed.

**Please note: Our animals live in foster homes throughout the Madison area. We do not have a shelter where animals are available for daily viewing. Applying is the first step in our process.**

Dogs from Underdog Pet Rescue come with the following medical care already provided:
Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella Vaccinations (as age appropriate-puppy adopters may need to cover some vaccine boosters OR they have the option of bringing the pet to Underdog for complimentary completion of these vaccines)
Heartworm Test (for dogs over 6mo)
Heartworm and Flea/Tick Preventative
Any other necessary medical treatment as recommended by veterinarian

Our adult dog adoption fee is $275. Our puppy (under 5 mo) is $350. Our senior dog (over 8 yrs) is $250.

*Please note that all breeds noted are estimates or best guesses. We very rarely have information on our animals' actual breeds since they often come to the shelters we work with as strays*
