12/9/2014: Darling Darla is a super sweet and loving Pit Bull. She is very people-friendly and affectionate. She loves children. We’ve introduced her to many, many kids and she’s very gentle and sweet with them.

Darla is a bright girl and she has a medium energy level. She likes running around in the yard and playing, but she’s very calm indoors and she loves to sit with the volunteers and spend time relaxing. She’ll absolutely sprawl across your lap if you’ll let her! She also enjoys playing with interactive toys.

Darla doesn’t get along real well with other adult dogs. She rarely starts anything, but she reacts if challenged. She can be very near other dogs on a leash, but she needs a little cushion of space so they’re not in her face. We walk her regularly on leash walks with other dogs and she ignores them as long as she has a few feet of space. However, she does like most puppies — she completely takes on the role of mom dog! She’s had several puppy kennel mates and she enjoys them and treats them very well, even as they grow bigger. Some of the people who’ve adopted Darla’s former puppy kennel mates have even brought them back to visit her, and they start up playing together like old friends. Darla probably wouldn't be a good match for someone who currently has a dog, but she could be adopted with a puppy friend. Or she'd be fine as an only dog since she loves human companionship. She does need a home without cats.

Darla is very pretty with a white coat and fawn patches. She is 4 years old and weighs 45 lbs. She's been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and tested for heartworms. Sadly, we think she may have been used for breeding-- it was obvious when she first arrived that she'd had multiple litters. Darla is a sweet girl and she’s been with us a long time. She deserves to be a loved companion dog in a good home.

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our dogs, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the dog home with you that same day.
