Meet Daphne
Daphne does seem too interested in cats so we don't recommend a home with any felines; but a dog savvy cat that will swat her and stand it's ground may be ok for her but proper training and supervision with any cat is required to ensure safety of the cat.
Daphne seems to ride reasonably well in a vehicle and enjoys watching out the windows on the ride from what we have noted.
She was double bunking in her kennel at one time with young adult male dog and was fine playing with him. She may have been a bit dominant over food with him though so feeding time should be watched with her in a home that has another dog. She has been ok playing in the yard with adult female husky Paris and adult males Jack and King as well. However she does seem to have a problem with a smaller husky female Cathy....so any home with a current dog will want to have her meet their dog and likely do a trial to allow her time to settle in with a house mate of the K9 persuasion.
Daphne finds the shelter stressful so she doesn't show her true self there. A trial adoption is a good recommendation for Daphne's new adopters as she will need time to decompress outside of the shelter setting. Our trial periods are typically 2 weeks long but can be extended.
Daphne weighed 24.5kg at spay appt. late Sept 2024.
UPDATE Nov 18/24 - Daphne got to spend a day with a volunteer out of town shopping - her comments:
Daphne has great potential!
She got in the vehicle with no issues. She was very intent and focused on everything happening outside as we got gas and began the drive.
She settled a little and was very comfy in the back seat.
She wanted to get out whenever the back door opened but waited in the car politely when we left from the front seat.
She is unsure of what to do on a leash but is very happy to be with a human and not stuck at the shelter.
She barked twice in the car at things she was unfamiliar with.
It was cold and windy but we had a short walk on the beach and around the mall. She was scared at first of unfamiliar features like flags and lights.
She traveled very well and was happy to meet and greet people in a friendly way...especially if they had treats.
Regular adoption fee for dogs is $300; if the dog is too young for spay/neuter prior to adoption then a $300 post dated spay/neuter deposit cheque (OR PAD form) is also required - we don't cash this cheque but hold it until cheque date and proof of S/N surgery provided by the date on the cheque - typically when the pup is 6 months of age. Occasionally we adopt out particular animals at fundraising prices to help offset our vet bills, each fundraiser dog will be posted as such with the adoption fee noted. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter and rabies ONLY if surgery is done with our Meadow Lake vet; otherwise adopters are responsible to pay those fees at their own vets.
