Meet Damien

Pal's Place would love to introduce you to Damien, a stunning bi-color male German Shepherd. Damien is estimated to be 2-4 years old and currently weighs 65 pounds. However, he came to us very underweight and is slowly getting closer to his ideal weight of 85-90 pounds. This gorgeous fella was rescued from an overburdened animal control facility in Kentucky. He is now in a loving foster home in Chicago while he waits to meet his forever family. Damien is a typical German Shepherd in many ways. He is brilliant, loyal, and watchful. He can be aloof when first meeting new people but warms up quickly once his trusted humans provide an introduction. Damien, like many Shepherds, seems to have some barrier frustration and can be vocal when behind a barrier (i.e., fence, crate, door, etc.) towards new people. Once the barrier is removed, Damien is very friendly, but this behavior can intimidate people who are not familiar with it. Because of this and his tendency to be opinionated, and willful at times, we seek a household experienced with German Shepherds for him. Damien is profoundly sweet and eager to please those he knows, but it appears he's had little to no training before coming to Pal's Place. Due to his size, lack of training, and unknown history before rescue, we feel he would do best in a home with children aged 14 years + or an adult-only home. He is very well behaved in the house and is crate trained and housebroken. He is being fostered with several other dogs and gets along well with his canine foster siblings. German Shepherds are active, intelligent dogs that do best with lots of mental and physical stimulation to channel their energy into something productive. He'll be an excellent dog for guardians looking to participate in a dog sport like agility, tracking, flyball, etc. If you think you can provide Damien with the attention, training, and exercise he needs to thrive, please reach out to us today! With the proper guardians and in the right environment, he will be a once-in-lifetime companion for any Shepherd lover! Damien was recently neutered, microchipped, and brought up to date with vaccines. Unfortunately, he did test positive for heartworm but has completed treatment for the infection and is now ready for his forever home.

Damien is in a foster home and can be seen by appointment only after an adoption application has been completed and approved. His adoption donation to the rescue is $375. This fee helps to cover his neuter, initial vaccines, microchip, and heartworm treatment. Please email or visit to complete an application online for more information or an application.
