The vet estimates that he was born about March 5 of this year and at 6 months old he weighed 29 pounds, so he will be a small to medium sized dog. Dakota, and his 5 siblings were brought to a West Virginia shelter by a person who said they were found on his property.
Dakota likes people and children, but can be a bit weary ( just stays away from them not aggressive) of louder children at first, but is fine afterward getting to know them. He has been around a several kids and does well.
Dakota gets along with other dogs, there has been 8 dogs in the foster home to socialize during his stay in the foster home, they range from 24 to 45 pounds and he has no problems wrestling with them.
It is unknown how he would do with cats. He does well on car rides and walks well on an expandable lead, although he zig-zagging to catch all the smells. .
Dakota is food driven and loves peanut butter as well as Milk Bone treats. He likes to be close to his person, took a couple of weeks before he wanted to stay outside if I wasn’t outside.
Now he, his sister Cherokee, and the foster’ beagle will play outside on their own. Dakota is not much of a barker, especially considering he is a beagle mix. He is very lovable and likes to cuddle for hours while you watch TV or whatever.
Dakota is robustly crate trained, and is well along his way to being house trained. If left out regularly he does fine, only one accident in the last week.
He is a sweet lovable laid back pup, his activity level is below average, if there isn’t another dog to play, he’ll be happy to sit on your lap.
He sleeps through the night in his crate (10:00 to 6:00) without protest. Dakota would do best with a fenced yard as he loves to wonder around stiffing and playing in the flower beds or high grass..
