TO CONTACT THE FOSTER HOME, email Keeler.lek@gmail.com. DO NOT use the Petfinder form. Inquiries don't reach us.
Curley is a young (under 2 years old), approximately 45 lb heeler mix who loves people even more than playing. He's snuggly, confident, easygoing, and quick on the uptake.
He's still learning indoor rules—mostly about what can and can't be chewed on—but he's housetrained, crate trained, and quickly picking up basic commands. It's a joy to watch him learn, and the sky might be the limit to the skills you can teach him.
He's happiest when working on a chew toy, learning something new, playing tug or chase, or gazing into your eyes while you scratch his velvet-soft ears (or his chin, or his belly, or his back...he's not picky, as long as you're petting him!). He enjoys a good nose-to-the-ground sniff as much as the next dog, but is also a great jogging companion. He's food-motivated and eager to please, but, like many smart and curious dogs, will make his own entertainment if not given structure and supervision.
Curley sometimes has trouble settling down indoors when not in his crate. He can't be left alone uncrated right now because of his enthusiasm for chewing, and will need continued obedience training to give him a great foundation for life as a pet. He already has the personality, and now just needs the communication skills!
Curley has been somewhat curious about cats but I believe has potential to be good with dog-savvy cats and careful introductions. He has not met many other dogs but has done well in a boarding kennel and meeting a relaxed, older small dog. He has not been tested with children, but is not startled by loud noises or sudden movements.
Curley is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. He's being fostered in Brattleboro, Vermont.
