What is Petersburg Animal Care & Control’s adoption process?

We do not have an adoption fee or an application fee. If approved, we will schedule the Animal to be sterilized and vaccinated before they leave, if we don't have proof they already are. The veterinarian office will be paid by adopter at pick-up. We work with a low cost clinic and have limited spots each week that we can schedule, or you can use your own vet as long as they are close to Petersburg. Applications are on our petfinder page (link above). If you decide to send one please attach a photo copy of your ID/DL. We cannot process it until we have that. The process can take anywhere from 2-8 days. Always call the shelter if you need more info or have any other inquiries. If we cannot get to the phone right away please leave a voice message. We are extremely understaffed right now so thank you in advance for your patience! ———————————— Old guidelines; Petersburg Animal Care and Control does NOT charge an adoption fee; however, we do require that all animals be spayed or neutered prior to leaving our facility. The cost of the spay/neuter is paid for by the adopter. What to Bring: -Drivers License or other identification with your picture on it (We are NOT allowed to accept military IDs.) -Proof of current address Adoption Process: -Sign our visitor book upon arrival -Leave your cell phones/cameras, ect. in your vehicle or at the front counter. They are not permitted beyond our lobby. -Wait to be escorted by one of our staff or volunteers. -Do NOT place hands or other body parts in or near the kennels. If you are interested in a specific animal, please let the staff/volunteer know and they will arrange for you to go to our meet and greet area where you can further interact with the animal. -From there, you are welcome to fill out an adoption application for the animal that you are interested in. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet and greet with your family pets. Meet and greets are by appointment only. For the safety of the animals, there must be two staff members present to handle ALL animals present during the meet and greet appointment.
