Cowboy's Story

Cowboy is a two-year-old dachshund x beagle cross. He's around 24 pounds and is an absolute sweetheart once he gets to know you. However, he's distrustful of strangers and needs gentle introductions and lots of verbal praise to meet new folks and dogs. He is really great with small and medium dogs of a similar size.

He did bite a neighbor in the past, so he also needs a securely fenced yard in a home without kids (even though he's great with kids that he knows) so he can't be let out the front door unexpectedly. Cowboy thinks he is a tiny boy, and will jump in your lap when you least expect it and cover you in kisses and hugs. Yes, he literally will put his paws around your neck and hug you. It's the cutest thing ever.

He has been to our vet for vaccines and blood work, which looks great.

He is so loving and we know that we safe and slow socialization, he will be the perfect pet in no time!

Cowboy's Ideal Home:

*Playful or cuddly companion dogs that are small or medium-sized (he is very respectful of smaller dogs).
*A home setting that isn't in a busy city center with lots of people and traffic
*Experience with socializing an under-socialized dog or the willingness to hire a trainer

To be considered for Cowboy, please apply on our website:
https://www.portlanddachshundrescue.org/adoptionform

Portland Dachshund Rescue, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
OUR CRITERIA There's nothing better than a successful match. We like to explain the process of finding the right rescue dog as being similar to online dating: You will want to check our site often to see who is new, read each bio and reach out if you think they might have found someone special. Our adoption team is highly skilled at helping you find a dog with the right personality that will fit your family and lifestyle. Occasionally, we receive multiple promising applications for a dog and ultimately match the dog with the home where we think they will do best. We are committed to helping you find a dog even if you don't "match" on your first attempt. We would love nothing more than to help you find the forever dog of your dreams. Although we like to tailor each match, we do have some basic criteria we look with respect to adoptive homes: *Homes should be non-smoking *Have a securely fenced yard *Ability to commit to yearly dentals and shots for the pet *Willingness to purchase ramps and pet stairs to safeguard the dog's back
