Cosmopolitan (aka Cosmo) is the perfect mix of active and playful. This boy is a total goober and you are going to fall in love with his personality! Below is what his foster has to say about him
"I can't say enough about Cosmo and what a wonderful dog he is. He is funny, goofy, and 100% lovable. He has no idea of his size and believes he is a lap dog. Cosmo loves people and is happiest sitting on a lap or leaning in hard for a good hard pet. When he is feeling frisky, a quick game of fetch outside helps him to release his zoomies. Cosmo is a huge fluffy butt, so potential adopters would be wise to consider pet insurance and the cost of grooming when considering Cosmo. He does have some behaviors that need to continue being addressed, mainly the table and counter surfing, but he has steadily improved since arriving and should continue to improve if new owners are consistent and watchful. His fantastic personality, demeanor, and looks far outweigh any extra effort needed to care for an extra-large dog."
Cosmo came to us after he became too much for his owner to handle. Unfortunately, they had surgery coming up which would leave them unable to properly care for a big ole guy like Cosmo. They surrendered him to our rescue so we could find a home better suited for his needs.
Cosmo is a 15-month-old male Great Pyrenees/Newfoundland mix. He currently weighs 115lbs. So, you are getting an equal amount of fluff and dog with this boy! ?
??To Comospolitan's Future Family??
? Cosmo currently walks 4 miles per day, divided into two walks. He does excellent on a leash unless someone/thing gives cause for him to pull. He loves car rides, and he will definitely want a window seat! Cosmo has been on numerous neighborhood walks, where many small groups of people come out to visit, pet, and ask about his breed. He does very well when meeting people and is friendly and excited. Cosmo doesn't jump on people very often. Only when he is really excited.
? Cosmo is still young, so if he is left to his own devices he may get into some things. He favors boxes and cardboard tubes, with a dash of wood or sticks. He is potty and kennel trained. When no one is home he stays inside or outside, depending on the weather. He has not shown to be a big barker in his foster home.
Cosmopolitan does not seem to have any issues with food aggression or resource guarding.
?Cosmo loves to play fetch! He has a small baseball-sized rubber ball that he goes crazy with! Cosmo is a water dog! Water, mud, you name it, because he will love it! He loves all manner of toys but is especially partial to a stuffed pink elephant.
?Due to his size and energy level, Cosmopolitan would not be a good fit for someone living in an apartment. He will need a large yard and a family on the more active side.
?Cosmo is being fostered with other dogs and kids. His foster does not have any cats. Cosmo is both friendly and playful with the other dogs. He has been around kids ages 10-12 and has done well. He is a big boy, though so they need to be aware of his size and be respectful of his space.
?? Adopting Cosmopolitan ??
Cosmos's ideal home would have someone with big dog experience and the strength and consistency to assure he maintains and improves his behavior. Cosmo has been through basic obedience and does a great job most of the time. However, when he is excited, he needs firm commands to tell him to settle- remember, he is still in the puppy stage! Cosmo needs twice daily walks for now, so an active owner is a must. Cosmo would love another big dog to play with, he loves other dogs! Any playmate would need to be close to Cosmo's size because he is a rambunctious playmate. Cosmo adores being around his people, and absolutely needs to be around his people a large part of the day. Cosmo is also extremely kid-friendly, but due to his extra-large size, any children should be older and understanding of correct behavior around dogs. Cosmo has excellent manners when meeting people, especially seniors and children, so social visits are necessary to his happiness. Cosmo has only been around cats at a distance, so it is unknown how he would react to one in the home. Cosmo does have a mild prey drive towards squirrels, but we have been working on it. Cosmo came to us as a kennel-trained dog, and he continues to use his kennel for sleep only. Cosmo is working on house manners, but his size can be a challenge. His head is at table and bar height when standing, so he is easily able to "explore" for food and other items when left alone too long. Foster home is not completely "puppy-proofed" for a dog this large, for instance, tv is on a stand and not mounted, so Cosmo is monitored at all times when given "free roam". Cosmo is an absolute sweetheart and would make someone a marvelous pet. He is potty trained, knows basic commands, completely friendly, and an absolute showstopper of a dog. He weighs in at 110lbs, eats 5 cups of food per day, and is XXL in height and length.
Cosmopolitan is being fostered in Tulsa, OK. His new family needs to be able to pick him up(even if they are out of state). No commercial transports and no shipping. Just a fun road trip with him and his new family! ?~~
His adoption fee is $225. That includes DHLPP, Rabies, and Bordatella shots. He will be micro-chipped, heart-worm tested, have a fecal done, be de-wormed, be spayed/neutered, and will be current on heart-worm and flea/tick prevention.
