This handsome guy is roughly 2.5 years old, neutered, and ready for his forever family. Copper is an absolute lovebug, but his genetics drive him to be extremely active. Hound dogs are workers, and they like having a job to do. This doesn't mean only hunting, but could be running, scent searching, or just playing enrichment games. Copper will need an owner who is prepared to help him appropriately exercise the energy he has. When working breeds are cared for correctly, they can become destructive due to boredom.
Copper suffers from anxiety, and needs an owner who can help him with that. Copper is currently on a twice daily medication to help him relax. The shelter can be a stressful place, and Copper is ready to get out of here! Once in the home, Copper may be able to be weaned off his medication. This will only be successful if Copper is given the correct and appropriate lifestyle and daily routine.
Copper has previously lived in a home with other dogs, and did well for the most part. He did not get along with the other male in the home, but peacefully coexisted with the female dog. Due to his past, we are requiring a dog introduction at HSoP if you have another dog at home. Copper (like most hound dogs) chases cats, so he will need a home with no kitties.
Copper is a super friendly guy, and he LOVES people! He makes a great couch cuddler, and will fill your home and heart with happiness. He is extremely smart, and highly treat motivated. This makes for a great ability to train him.
If you feel like you can give Copper the lifestyle he needs and deserves, call us at (208)883-1166 to learn how to schedule an appointment.
Due to Coppers needs, HSoP will not adopt him into an apartment.
