Meet Copper

You may have noticed that Copper has been missing from our adoptable dogs lately. In order to increase his chances of a successful adoption, an experienced trainer has been working with Copper and volunteers. Copper came to us as a stray in the summer of 2019. It was apparent that he had no training and few social skills. He quickly became a shelter favorite, a playmate for several dogs and a neat housekeeper! Copper greats each volunteer with a wagging tail and an anticipation of a good long walk or just one on one time. But, once Copper was in a home, he became possessive of what he perceived to be his couch or chair, just like the kennel at the shelter is his "domain". Once out of the kennel and off his couch, he is a happy, friendly fellow to all!

Training for Copper needed to start at square one. He has now learned to walk appropriately on leash and to focus on his handler. He has learned not to get up on the couch, but instead go to his "place" or "house" and learned other basic commands. Each week new skills were taught and practiced with the volunteers and even though he has graduated from obedience classes we will continue to work with him. He is a very smart dog, learns quickly and will need a strong leader, someone who is able to spend time exercising, playing and with him and to continue working with him. He is very treat oriented, so really looks forward to training time.

Copper cannot live with cats or small furry animals. A fenced yard is preferred as hounds tend to wander when following their noses!

He is sponsored by Robert Tipton, Sandra Pavlock, Jill Reese, Elaine Tschari and Ron and Brenda Johnson, Lucinda Gelsmino, Randy and Debby Ruhland and Will and Cindy Hepfer in memory of Skye and Rosa McDonald. Thank you everyone!

Copper is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. His adoption fee is $215.00. (cash or check only, we are unable to accept credit cards)

If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an adoption application.
