Meet Connie
Over 18 million dogs live on Mexico's streets. The Meximutt Project, a BAPBR initiative, tackles this crisis at the source—through comprehensive spay/neuter programs and by connecting rescued dogs with loving Oregon families.
Since 2019: 400+ dogs adopted, 3,200+ spayed/neutered.

• NAME: Connie
• AGE: ~1 years old
• WEIGHT: ~29 lbs
• BREED(S): Corgi - German Shepherd mix (our best guess since they’re rescues!)
• GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes!
• GOOD WITH CATS? Yes
• GOOD WITH KIDS? Yes, but please keep in mind that they must be taught to respect the dog’s space, belongings, and food.
• HOUSEBROKEN? No, not 100% yet -- Please keep in mind that our dogs are rescued off the streets, they are NOT always 100% housebroken and will need time and patience to adjust. Even in a foster home in Mexico, the dogs are often living in an environment with no carpet or grass or living outside. In the house, it is usually tile flooring and outside it is dirt/concrete. Most of our dogs transition well and only need about 1-2 weeks to get on a potty schedule/routine.
• LOCATION: Currently in Guadalajara foster care. 2-4 weeks to arrange flight once adoption is approved
**Meet CONNIE**
Connie was found wandering the streets alone and pregnant, with nowhere safe to go and no one to protect her. Our volunteers brought her to safety, but heartbreakingly, she lost her puppies. In the weeks since, this gentle soul has been healing—not just physically, but emotionally too. And what's emerging is a dog with a remarkably sweet spirit and an enormous capacity to love again.
At about a year old, this golden-tan Corgi mix with her signature short legs and oversized ears is ready to leave her difficult past behind and discover what it means to simply be someone's beloved companion.
*From Fearful to Flourishing*
When Connie first arrived at her foster home, she moved through the world like a ghost—quiet, uncertain, keeping to the edges of rooms. The first time her foster family called her name, she hesitated, as if wondering whether coming closer would be safe. But then something shifted. Maybe it was the consistent meals, the soft bed, or just the steady kindness she encountered every day. Within her first week, Connie began seeking out her foster family instead of avoiding them, pressing her body against their legs as if to say "I'm ready to trust you now."
"She's transformed so quickly," her foster family shares with obvious affection. "Now she follows us everywhere, always wanting to be close. She's learning that she doesn't have to face the world alone anymore."
That transformation speaks volumes about Connie's resilient, loving nature. Despite everything she's endured, she's chosen to open her heart again.
*A Portrait of Sweetness*
With her golden coat, white chest, adorable short legs, and those wonderfully expressive ears that seem to catch every word you say, Connie is undeniably charming. But it's her gentle, noble personality that truly sets her apart.
She's affectionate with people, always content when she's near her humans. With other dogs, she starts a bit shy but warms up beautifully once she feels comfortable. She's even shown calm curiosity around cats—interested but never aggressive. Connie seems to approach the world with a quiet gentleness that makes her easy to love.
Her foster family notes that beneath her sweet demeanor is a playful spirit just waiting to fully emerge. She's still learning about house training and may need guidance with leash walking, but her willingness to learn and please makes her an ideal student for a patient family.
*The Perfect Match for Connie*
Connie's gentle, adaptable nature makes her a wonderful fit for many different homes. She'd thrive with a single person looking for a devoted companion, a couple wanting a sweet shadow to follow them through life, or a family ready to show her the stability she's never known. Her easygoing temperament with other pets means she could join a home with existing dogs or cats, or be perfectly content as an only pet getting all the attention.
What Connie needs most is consistency and love—a home where she can continue building her confidence, where she'll always have a warm bed and full food bowl, and where she'll be cherished for the special soul she is.
At just a year old, Connie has already survived so much. She's proven she can heal, adapt, and love despite loss. Now she's ready for the chapter she deserves—one filled with security, affection, and the simple joy of belonging somewhere permanently.
Are you ready to be the home where Connie finally gets her happy ending?
