Meet Coal

Name: Coal
Intake: 4/10/1024
Young male canine Shepherd mix
Approximate age: 1 to 2 years old
Approximate DOB: 1/1/ 2023
Foster: Karen B

TITD named me Coal, due to my black coat, although I do have a white chest and white toes. I was found in west Redlands where civilization meets the Everglades. Foster mom saw me laying on the side of the road. I was ready to give up. I had been dumped, but I was waiting, waiting for my family to come back and get me. Foster mom stopped to check on me and saw how skinny and hungry I was. I had sores on my back and tail, my skin was very dry flaky. I was thankful to get some food but apprehensive about leaving my spot. With help from another TITD foster I was loaded into the car, which was the beginning of my new life. At the time I did not realize how much better it would be.

I was fed very well and started to put on weight and feel good again. I am very pretty with my shiny black coat. I get along with other dogs at Foster mom’s house. I sleep in a nice dog pen. Foster mom takes me out on long walks a few times a day. There are many colony cats that live in the yard and the groves around us. I would really like to chase the cats to play with them, but Foster mom always tells me to “leave it.” I cannot go to a home who has cats because they are not squeak toys. I like people and appreciate the time Foster mom spends with me. She taught me to sit when she puts the leash on and off of me and I give her my paw.

While bathing me, foster mom found a scar on my neck from a collar or a rope that had been tied for too long and too tight around my neck. I wear a comfy collar now so I can go on my walks. I never go to the bathroom in my pen. Foster mom says that is really good so I am probably housebroken also, since I wait to go outside to do my business. Foster mom has foster cats up at her house so I cannot stay in there right now.

I would love somebody who would give me attention and their time. Foster mom tries to get me to play with toys, but I really don’t understand what I am supposed to do because I’ve never had a toy before. I know I can learn tricks or whatever you want to teach me because I would like to please my family and have them love me as much as I would love them.

I should weigh about 50 pounds once you can’t see my bones anymore. And my coat has turned so soft and shiny with being fed good food. Please will somebody give me a chance to be a part of their family, so I can have happy life spending time with my family!
Patiently waiting
