Meet Coal-ADOPTION PENDING

Coal could be that dream come true pup for retirees who love spending their time with a cottony-soft, super-loving and very sweet companion. There's no question that Coal would also do well with a younger family with gentle kids who enjoy the fun and positive energy that a sweet and very loving and loyal dog brings to a family.

One of the challenging urban areas of Houston is known for its huge homeless dog population. Each day brings with it the never-ending parade of emaciated and abused dogs of every variety and age seeking food and help. Some are less desperate than others, and even appear to have had a loving home at one time. Coal is one of these dogs...he's been identified by vets as a well-bred purebred Lab (we can't say for certain..we just know he's sweet and very loving!) He's Heartworm negative (unusual for street dogs), has a super-shiny and very healthy coat and has far more self-esteem than most dogs discarded in this part of the city.

Sadly, after the round-up by animal control officers of this "dog-discard" area, the only place for them to drop Coal off was at a high-kill urban shelter that runs out of space very quickly. Farfel's was immediately contacted by our Texas rescuers about the results of Coal's excellent temperament tests and huge need. We were thrilled to welcome this gorgeous dog into our rescue.

Although Coal's life had taken a heartbreaking turn, not for him to be negative or sad. He's a resilient guy who's nature is to be very positive and happy go lucky once comfortable in his environment. Farfel's is very committed to placing Coal with a family that derives great joy from showering this sweet as can be dog with nothing but nurturing, love and kindness. Coal will be a gift of pure love to a dog-loving family. He's so entertaining in his antics and is fun-loving and silly... there is truly nothing but pure love and loyalty that lives inside of the heart of this wonderful guy.

Coal can be initially unsure ..but give him just a short time (yummy treats are always helpful) and he inches just a bit closer to a welcoming hug. Before you know it he's gently loving you with a soft kiss and a happily wagging tail. Coal's awesome Texas rescuer is certain that there is a home out there that will love, respect and make this gorgeous guy a very important and permanent member of their family.

Coal will do well with a family who's invested in spending time with their pup. He's so pleasant that he can be a part of any adventure....it can be a long hike or snowshoeing on mountain trails, a neighborhood walk to socialize, a car ride, a dog-friendly vacation or just an afternoon spending time together plopped down on the couch - all of this would speak to Coal's excellent temperament and love of life. We aren't open to a home where everyone spends their days working full-time outside of the home....we'd like Coal to get more time and attention than is possible with that lifestyle. Retirees or a younger family that works from a home-based office are excellent choices for our wonderful guy.

We would love to see Coal in a home that includes him in family time and activities. A family that takes that extra step to participate in an 8 week long, once weekly positive reinforcement group obedience classes would be a gift to both family and dog. These classes take a very smart and cooperative dog like Coal and teaches them the skills to accompany their family out into the world with excellent behavior. We feel that this training experience is vital to a dog's development and bonding with their people. We therefore will only choose a home for Coal that chooses this training opportunity for him and their family. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement/force-free trainers in your area.

Coal has a stunning pure-black coat that is shining and as soft as cotton. He will require a lifelong commitment to periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition (5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are very important elements for longevity and coat care) to keep his hair super-soft and shining with good health.

Coal will be arriving on transport in Denver on Wednesday 2/3/2021. Applications are currently being accepted for this stunning guy and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If you're interested in this sweet, cuddly and super-loving best friend, please fill out our application completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Coal please be sure to fill out the Farfel's Rescue adoption application that can be found at the link above or at farfels.com. Rescue site applications such as Adoptapet, Rescueme and Petfinder don't provide enough information for our purposes. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving pup. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit a Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
