Cleopatra Bexley (CONC-A-125) German Shepherd Dog Concord, NC

Meet Cleopatra Bexley, but you can call her Cleo! This beautiful, big-eared German Shepherd mix is almost six years old and just under seventy pounds. Cleo was adopted from our facility as a puppy but has returned to us after five years at no fault of her own. Upon her return, we quickly noticed that Cleo was experiencing varying degrees of mobility issues. Some days, she struggled with her hind left leg, while on others, it was her front right leg, and sometimes both.

After consulting several veterinarians, including a specialist, we discovered that Cleo has elbow dysplasia in both front legs, an old cruciate tear in her rear left leg, and arthritis in all four legs - all congenital traits with her breed mix. As she wasn't a surgical candidate, we elected to do physical therapy to give her the best quality of life going forward. Cleo has completed Underwater Treadmill Therapy (UWTM) and along with Adequan injections and joint supplements, she is now able to walk, play, and enjoy being a dog. While she still has the occasional bad day, they are becoming rare, and she never lets them dampen her happy spirit.

Cleo is a loyal companion who forms strong bonds with those she loves, often showering them with full-blown hugs. She has excellent manners, knows to go outside to potty, and understands basic commands. Cleo absolutely adores car rides and will happily hop right into the passenger seat.

Cleo has also shown that she gets along well with other dogs, and may do well with a canine sibling. Her reaction to cats is unkown.
