Chunk aka Chunky Boy aka The Dude is the BEST!

At 13 years old, Chunk is one of our special older dogs at Forgotten Dogs Rescue. He came to us in June after someone taking care of him realized Chunk needed more medical care than he could provide. We agreed to meet Chunk and it was love at first sight! Of course, we instantly took him into the rescue (thank you, fosters!) and have been working on getting him healthy and happy.

When Chunk first came to Forgotten Dogs Rescue, he had open wounds on his legs and feet, he suffered deafness due to untreated and ongoing ear infections, he had lost all of his fur on his tail and a bunch on his back, his toenails were so overgrown they were affecting his gait, he had poor muscle strength and he was covered in lumps. He was a bit of a mess. Our understanding is that he hadn’t been to the vet in a LONG time, so that was the first place we took him.

Now, he is such a handsome dude! Despite not having had previous ongoing vet care, his blood work is amazing, his teeth are incredible, he has grown most of his hair back, his wounds are healed and, while he still can’t hear great (we can’t tell if he is really just being selective), his ear infections are currently at bay. He is looking good!

Not only is Chunk looking good, he is feeling good! He loves going for long walks around his neighborhood and in the parks by his house. When his foster first started walking him, he could only make it about 15 minutes, but last week he walked five miles! It is amazing and inspiring to see how much willpower he has to get stronger and live a great life. He loves a good game of tug o’ war and tearing apart old basketballs. He also loves tearing apart rope toys and all plushies. He is a like a puppy playing with water from the hose! It is so cute!

After a good walk and, maybe a tug or two, he likes to lay around and sleep. He loves to cuddle up with his human on the couch and snuggle in for the rest of the day/night. Chunk is super laid back and chill around the house. We ask that he be the only pet in the home. He lived with another dog previously, but we have not asked him to accept any other animals and we aren’t sure we want to ask him to at this point in his life. He seems happy as a solo pup. He would do great in a home with kids who would respect his age. He LOVES kids. LOVES kids.

Chunk is also super smart and so well behaved! While he loves to destroy all toys, he doesn’t chew up anything in the house he isn’t supposed to, and he has never had an accident. He knows shake! He needs some work on proper leash manners (he has gotten so much better) and he is a bit of a drooler. But, what do you expect of a senior dude?

Once you meet Chunky, you can't help but love him. This was certainly true for us! After a lot of TLC, Chunk deserves to find a home that will treat him like the king and baby he is; he is the best and deserves the best!
