Chop Rottweiler Patterson, NY

Chop is 1 yrs old and was surrendered to a shelter because his owners were moving. He has an exceptional temperament and is a real sweetie. He lived with and loves children. Cats are unknown. In his leashed dog test with us he was curious and appropriate, but his owners said they didn't really have him around other dogs because they didn't know anyone who had dogs. In the shelter's tests with him a male dog jumped on him and across his back three times and each time he tried to avoid him. The fourth time, he gave a low warning to the rude dog! Not sure why the other dog was used, but good boy Chop! At the kennel during a Meet, when Chop jumped at the other dog even though not aggressively, the dog reacted strongly and then Chop did too. Slow introductions with a balanced playmate would do best to help him socialize. He would also benefit from group Obedience classes so a trainer can observe him with other dogs and give suggestions.
