Chipper Australian Cattle Dog / Blue Heeler Mix Charleston, WV

“Now Hiring" a forever home! Meet Chipper! Chipper is an energetic boy who joined us from Georgia. He's a mix a little on the larger side — beautiful red and chocolate speckled coat with little half folded ears. He gets along with dogs of all sizes and genders and is typically towards the bottom of the pecking order.
Chipper just completed two weeks of board and train for basic obedience and will go to his forever home with a graduation certificate. He walks well on a leash and knows the commands heel, sit, sit/stay, down, down/stay, and place. He is a gentleman in his crate and is house-trained. He respects fences and has interacted with cats and horses in his foster home. He is interested in cats but does not attempt to chase or harm them. He is unsure of the horses and ignores them. He has not tried to heel, nip, or chase the horses.
Chipper initially was not fan of children but his recent behavior with a dog savvy 8-year old has greatly improved and they play fetch together without issue. He recently had a visit with other young children while in training and did well after a reminder about nipping fingers offered for sniffing. He does not care for noise and unpredictability so older dog-savvy and respectful children are a must.
Chipper’s trainer absolutely adores him. He is likely not suited for a novice dog owner, but should do well in any other situation. He is a well-behaved, smart boy but will need regular obedience work and mental/physical exercise to remain happy and well-balanced. Chipper’s favorite things are cuddles, kisses, food, and fetch. He does take his time warming up to you but once he likes you, he's your shadow. He also enjoys lounging in the sunshine and playing with his foster siblings.
