Chica - LOCAL's Story

This pretty lady is ready to show her forever family that the good life is all about playtime, adventure, and plenty of cuddles!

Chica has left her rough past behind and is embracing her second chance with all the joy and energy in the world. Whether she's chasing toys, zooming around the yard, or goofing off with her people, she's always up for fun.

This social butterfly wins hearts wherever she goes with her sweet, happy personality and endless puppy antics. When the fun is done, she's happy to settle down for a nap in her crate--complete with the cutest snores you'll ever hear. She also sleeps soundly through the night.

Chica is still polishing her puppy manners and working on housetraining, but she's already making great progress. She's very food-motivated, which makes training a breeze!

She does need to be fed separately from other dogs, as she can be protective of her food--but she has absolutely no issues with people.

If you're looking for a joyful, affectionate companion who's always ready to make you smile, Chica might just be your girl.

Ready to let this sweet, silly puppy steal your heart?

IMPORTANT MEDICAL INFORMATION:
This sweet pup has a heart condition called subaortic stenosis (SAS) -- that means there's a bit of narrowing in the pathway blood takes as it leaves her heart. She underwent an ultrasound while with us in rescue, which was examined by a Professor of Veterinary Cardiology in North Carolina.

Right now, at 6 months old, she's still growing, so it's too early to know exactly how serious it will be. We'll know more once she turns 1 year old. The good news is that her current heart scans show her heart isn't enlarged and she's not in heart failure, which is a very positive sign.

She'll likely need to take a heart medication called atenolol (approx. $10 per month at the most) for life and have a heart ultrasound (echocardiogram) once a year to keep an eye on things.

Dogs with this condition can live happy, comfortable lives--often for many years (around seven or more on average). She'll just need a family who understands that she shouldn't do really strenuous activities like long hikes or intense running, but she can still enjoy regular walks, playtime, and lots of love.

Don't let this scare you - this girl is awesome and can live a full life - if you are concerned about a yearly ultrasound, we may be able to provide support for the first few years of her adoption with you!!

Name: Chica
Breed: Pit Bull Terrier/Crossbreed
Sex: Female
Age: 6 months (estimated)
Weight: 30lbs
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Vaccinations: Up to date
Microchipped: Yes
Medical: Subaortic Stenosis (SAS); see information above.

BASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS:
Good with Children: Over 5
Good with Dogs: Yes
Good with Cats: Yes

Adoption Fee: $450.00 (includes transport fee when applicable)

Location of dog currently: Western MA

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England.

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher.
