Chester showed up as a stray at Fulton County Animal Control on January 2, 2017. He was adopted from the shelter on June 2, 2017 and about a year later on July 3, 2018 he was sadly found as a stray again. His owner never reclaimed him and based on his condition, he was not very well cared for. He had a foster mom when he was at animal control originally and she has graciously taken him back in and has committed to finding him a wonderful forever family. To ensure that Chester finds an amazing family he was transferred from Fulton County Animal Control to FTTF in August 2018. A private rescue has a more thorough screening process than animal control and this will help Chester find a top notch family!
Chester is a beautiful brown with grey, short coat. He has a medium energy level, is extremely smart, and learns quickly. His foster mom thinks he would excel as a therapy dog too.
Chester is a snuggly land-manatee that loves to be with his people and play with approved fur-buddies. He minds his manners and follows commands very quickly once he learns them. Chester is working on getting his social behavior back to charm school level as he has reverted back to being anxious on outings. He has some leash reactivity to other dogs and is working really hard with his foster mom on this. Chester is house-trained and crate trained and is used to being in his crate for an 8-9 hour work day. When no one is home, he stays in his crate and does fine. At night time, he has a rotating sleeping pattern and enjoys the couch, dog beds, his crate, and the floor. He has not been destructive and does very well inside the home. Chester is a man that likes to have privacy when doing his business. He prefers to be off-leash and refuses to handle his business while on-leash, so a fenced yard would be best. He currently lives in an apartment in Atlanta with a shared community doggie play yard that he really enjoys. He rarely barks so this makes him a good match for an apartment as well. Unlike most dogs that hate the rain, Chester enjoys playing in the rain and in water so he may enjoy swimming too. Baths he tolerates well, but they are not as fun as enjoying a good rain dance. He loves going for car rides and most of all, he loves to be with his people and to please. Due to his size, he would do best with older children in the home.
Chester currently lives with small dogs. He does great with them and he seems to do well with female dogs of all sizes. He does not do well with larger male dogs and he is not suited for a home with cats. There is an outside cat on the patio of his foster home and he shows a little too much interest in her. Chester is a beautiful dog that needs a second chance at a forever family. Please consider making this beautiful boy part of your family!
