chauncey Poodle Mix Rockaway, NJ

Chauncey is probably about 2-3 years old at the most. We believe he could be a Poodle mix, a Maltipoo, or maybe even a Havipoo. He's black with a little white - like a party color. He's small and has curly soft hair and his tail curls over his back in a little plume. Just adorable.
He came to us from a shelter where he had been so terrified that he wouldn't let any of the staff near him. They contacted us to see if we could let him decompress in our foster home and have a better chance at a normal life. He has been with us several months now, and he's very comfortable in his foster home. He is very affectionate with his foster parents and our staff trainer and tolerates all their handling. But, with new people he is standoffish and will bark a lot until he gets accustomed to them. Because of this, people who come to meet him might not find it easy to see the good attributes of his personality. He will need someone who is willing to work with him, let him settle, get to know and trust them, give him stability and confidence. Surprisingly, this doesn't take him that long. Probably not a busy home with a lot of people coming and going and lots of other pets and changes, he is best in non chaotic situations right now. We hope that with continued exposure to new things and more pleasant experiences, he will continue to become better and better adjusted.
In his prior life, he was probably left alone and maybe in a cage all the time. In his foster home, he's loose and able to mill around his foster home and a fenced yard.

He's healthy, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative. He hasn't been groomed yet because we think he looks so cute as he is, but he'd be cute in any poodle or puppy haircut.

He gets along with all the other dogs in his foster home that do not get right in his face and bark. Cats unknown, but we think that would be ok.
