Meet Chase

Chase is a 2-year-old boy with a LOT of energy. This handsome fella's pic may make you swoon, but potential dog parents please note: he is not a "first GSD" for rookie owners.

Chase absolutely must have an experienced home with an owner who makes it clear who runs the place (hint: it's not Chase!) and who will hold this young dog accountable for his very best behavior in ALL environments.

Why? Because when with his humans in controlled environments, he's a whole lot of fun. He's loyal, he's smart, he's sweet, and he's even goofy! But outside of his home, Chase has a lot to learn about manners in a polite society. Absent strong leadership, he will indulge in bossy, territorial behaviors.

While getting passed from one owner to the next in his young life, Chase has earned himself two bite incidents because of this -- both initiated when trying to make someone "go away" from his human. Though none broke skin, anybody who's been on the receiving end of a 'go away' moment by a strong dog knows that's absolutely no fun at all.

We'll be blunt: Chase is a "project dog." He's by no means the first we've seen and (we rescue GSDs, after all) he likely won't be the last! :-)

But, since coming into rescue, Chase has shown us his potential. When in the hands of experienced dog leaders who do not allow any of his nonsense, he turns into a respectful young man, looking for what you will ask next of him and (more importantly) NOT looking to cause trouble.

Chase has already completed a full obedience training course on his first steps toward learning the ways of "the good dog." But obedience training is just his starting point-- his new human must work that training regularly and teach this youngster that he is absolutely not in charge ... of anything.

So if you're one of those experienced dog leaders, and don't mind the challenge of teaching a brash young project dog how to live well in this world, we'd love to chat with you about Chase. What many companion dog owners will see as "way too much dog" can often be exactly what longtime working-breed dog owners are looking for!
