Meet Charlie-NC

Located with his foster parents in Apex, NC near Raleigh.
Please read all the information on Charlie’s listing before applying for this dog.

If you would like to be considered as a potential adopter for Charlie, please fill out our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application.

We will review your application and respond to you as to whether we feel Charlie would do well in your home. We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs.

Our adoption process can take a few weeks. You must be approved to adopt before we will schedule a meet and greet. Our adoption process involves vet and personal reference checks, phone interviews and a home visit.

AGE: 8 months old (born 11/2018)

WEIGHT: 65 pounds

FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence is preferred. Charlie is known to run away if there is a distraction or opportunity given.

COAT TYPE: Charlie has a blonde, straight wavy, scruffy coat that may be shedding when his adult coat comes in. He will need regular brushing and grooming. Brushing him will reduce his very little shedding. His new family should be prepared for the expense of having him groomed every 6-8 weeks.

ENERGY LEVEL: Very playful puppy! Charlie likes to play at times, but would prefer to snuggle and to be as close to his humans as possible. If he can lay in your lap he will, but he will be happy if he can lay at your feet, or next to your chair as long as he can be near!

DOGS: Great; Charlie is a very submissive dog! He is a very sweet dog, and plays very well with his foster siblings. Though, he acts like a puppy sometimes, most of the time you would never know because he has a very calm demeanor.

CATS: Unknown; he has had no exposure in his foster home.

KIDS: We think due to Charlie’s minimal experience with younger children, he would do better in a home with kids over 6 years old. He gets a little excited sometimes and could knock a smaller child over.

CAR: Great! Charlie has done really well when we have taken him in the car. He lays down in the back seat and quietly waits to arrive!!

CRATE: Charlie does use his crate at night and whenever his foster family leaves the house. When it is time for us to put him in his crate, he does not love going in there. He will go in, but reluctantly. Usually we have to tell him “crate” a couple times, or if we give him a treat he will run right in! He has urinated in the crate a few times at night...he is almost house-trained except for these few accidents.

Here's what Charlie-NC’s foster parents have to say about him:
Meet Charming and Cute Charlie Bear!

Charlie is an 8 month old Goldendoodle puppy who was surrendered to IDOG by his family. They loved him very much but wanted him to be with a family who could give him the time and attention that he deserves as their work travel was causing Charlie to be crated for long periods of time. Charlie is a smart, funny, sweet puppy and will be a great addition to someone’s family!

Charlie is always ecstatic when he meets new people and will come right up to anyone to give kisses. He tends to think that jumping on people is the proper way to say hello, so we’ve been working on training him to stay down. Charlie is the complete opposite of a shy pup and will melt your heart the moment you meet him! He is the sweetest and most lovable dog we’ve ever had the pleasure of fostering!

Charlie does need a little help with his manners as most puppies do, he needs training and continued positive reinforcement:
-he counter-surfs...he is very curious about what is on the table or counter at dinner time.
-he digs...if you do not watch him closely while he is in the yard, he will dig holes in the dirt.
-he chews...he needs to be occupied by toys at all times, or he will decide that shoes are more fun to play with.
-he jumps...he thinks that greeting someone means jumping on them. He also thinks that playing includes mouthing, which is not very nice!

Though he has some training to be done, he is the most laid back and affectionate foster puppy that we have had. He just needs someone who will be able to be consistent with him and help him learn the rules! He wants to make his family happy, but he doesn’t understand what the rules are yet. With a little training and patience, he will get it in no time!

Charlie is such a sweetheart. He loves to cuddle; he will lay his sweet little head on your lap and nap, or lay next to you if he can. But he never sleeps too deep, if you get up to do anything he will wake up and come with you. If you are looking for a loyal guy, look no further!

The only time we have had an issue with him barking is when he wants to play and our dogs don’t want to. We either play with him ourselves, or re-direct him to do something else and he will stop. He also barks once or twice to let you know that he is not very happy to be in his crate. Though, once he realizes you are not going to save him, he stops almost immediately!

Charlie loves to run around the back yard and loves to play ball! His favorite toy is his squeaky ball, and that stays in his mouth most the day. He is very friendly to neighbors who meet him in the backyard. He also enjoys the sprinkler, along with the frisbee. He runs very fast and has a lot of energy. He tugs on his leash, but we are teaching him to heel and he is catching on rather quickly. We think he would make a perfect running companion (when the vet approves) and water dog!

He would do best with a family who has time to work with him on training and where he isn't crated for long periods of time.

Charlie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, crate and almost house trained. He is heartworm negative and on heartworm/flea and tick preventatives.
