Meet Charlie (adoption pending)

Charlie has just arrived into rescue! His owners were facing some personal health issues within the family and felt that Charlie was deserving of another home who could provide that amazing forever home for him and continue with the time and training needed to raise a 12 month old Shepherd puppy.

Charlie loves going for walks and outings. He enjoys car rides and is always excited to explore hiking trails and beaches. At the beach, digging in the sand is an absolute favorite activity for him. He likes to get his feet wet sometimes but is afraid of actually swimming. Charlie loves playing fetch (outside with sticks is his favorite, but he also likes indoor fetch with his toys). Tug-a-war is also one of his favorite games. He enjoys having a variety of toys with different textures and shapes ranging from stuffed animals to rope toys to balls to squeaky toys. He also loves turning his bowl over after eating and batting it around the house.

Charlie currently lives with three cats. One of the cats loves to play with him, and the two wrestle and chase each other a lot. The other two cats are afraid of Charlie, and Charlie does not understand their cues (even when they hit his nose). He thinks they want to play and chases them. He does stop when told by humans. If Charlie is rehomed into a cat household, all cats will need to be dog-loving cats who enjoy dog play!

Charlie is very vocal and overly excited when meeting new dogs, but loves to play (and plays very appropriately) once he gets over his initial noisy excitement. He has a good doggy friend who is under 10 lbs and has enjoyed playing with bigger dogs at the dog park as well.

Charlie loves people, including new people (after a noisy greeting). He is learning to sit when greeting people so he doesn't jump on them.

Charlie knows his basic commands and is working on sitting without prompting when the person walking him stops when on walks. He walks very nicely on leash.
Charlie eats Kirkland puppy food. He is a slow eater and likes to come and go from his bowl unless he is really hungry. For treats, he loves fruits, berrries, carrots, plain chicken meat, and cooked egg. He enjoys doggy chicken jerkey, pig ears, veggie "pig ears", and Zukes training treats in all flavors. He shows no food guarding signs with humans (unknown with other dogs) and is compliant of anything needs to be removed from his mouth.
Charlie does well being left home for short times, but has never been left for more than an hour or two.
Charlie loves pats, snuggles, hugs, and attention. He prefers to sleep in his own doggy bed on the floor at night, but loves to jump up in bed in the morning for snuggles and romping. He usually enjoys gentle brushing, but can get annoyed by it, which he demonstrates by trying to sneak (he thinks he is sneaking) away. He is accustomed to having his feet wiped before entering the house and does mind having his paws touched. Toe nail trims with a Dremmel go really well, especially if he gets treats to keep him from deciding he's done and trying to walk away.
Charlie has always behaved excellently at vet appointments and doesn't mind examinations at all. He is neutered and up to date on vaccines.

Charlie's ideal new home would be one with a playful doggy companion and a family with a lot of time to devote to play and exercise for him. He would do best in a home where he is not left alone for long periods of time because he is not used to this and would probably become lonely. He has not shown any signs of anxiety in his previous home.
Charlie really likes to know where his humans are and is extremely dedicated to shepparding them and keeping everyone together on walks. Charlie will need a family that is active, able to bring him along for outdoor fun, provides him with daily outdoor human-involved play, and is ready to play with him frequently throughout the day inside at home.

Please note that we require a secure fenced yard.
