Charlie and his brother, Jackson (Jack), were left tied to a bench with a note providing their names and age. The note also said the dogs were house-trained and crate-trained (but never crated for very long) and that they were "fine with children of all ages." Because of their size (Charlie weighs 111 lbs and Jackson weighs 106 lbs), however, potential adopters should give careful consideration to adopting a dog this size. While Charlie and Jackson seem to be 'gentle giants' when it comes to personality, and both are very affectionate, they are both incredibly strong. Charlie either doesn't like children or has not been around them long enough to be comfortable with them. His behavior when a child passes his kennel is cause enough for us to consider only applications from homes where there are no children younger than 12 years of age. Additionally, neither dog behaves well around cats so a feline-free home is a must. Both dogs walk well on leash but, again, their size could present problems for some people. We wish the note had provided Charlie and Jackson's breed make-up. Our best guesstimate is English Lab and maybe some Saint Bernard or Basset Hound. Even though they're over a 100-lbs, their weight is more in their bulk, not their height. Neither's back is much over knee-high but they are long in body and VERY solid. Charlie and Jack appear to be very bonded and would probably be happiest if adopted together. A reduced adoption fee is applicable if they are both adopted to the same home. We will only consider separating them if the adopter will be home a lot and/or if there is another canine-friendly dog in the home that hits it off with either dog. Since their owner indicated in the note that the dogs were never left alone for more than a few hours and were always in each others company, we don't think either would be happy being an only dog or being left alone for more than a few hours at a time. Charlie and Jackson may not be the right choice for a lot of people but, from what we can tell about them so far, they are super-loving and well-mannered guys. Both deserve a second chance at a loving and committed forever home.
