The first thing that struck me when meeting Charley was his coloring. A gorgeous light fawn color that reminds me of a sugar cookie.
Lex says everywhere they go, people comment on how beautiful Charley is. Born in April of 2017, Dutch Charley (his race name) is still very young. His behavior in this foster home has been excellent overall.
Happy, outgoing, loving, fun.NEVER had an accident in the house. Asks to go outside by whimpering or barking once. Sleeps through the night quietly up to 12 hours, and prefers to sleep on his own bed. Not really interested in toys.LOVES to do zoomies in the backyard over and over. Car rides are the highlight of his dayNever destroyed anything in the home, except for one incident with a paper towel roll. :)
The actual three words Lex gave me to describe Charley were confident, arrogant, and silly. His impending blindness doesn't affect his ability to love or have a full life. It does however cause some occasional anxiety and has some effect on his behavior, and there are certain requirements for his new home:
At times he may panic and lash out when touched from behind if he doesn't know its coming. Needs to have rugs on the floors to help him feel confident in moving from room to room. He will try to take advantage of you, and may try some alpha behaviors and attitude. But all that is needed is firm correction right away if he attempts to dominate, and he settles in to place. He needs to be the only dog, no cats, no small children. A fenced yard would be preferred, he needs his zoomies.
Are you the special kind of person that has room in your heart to take in this dog who will be completely blind? Charley has Progressive Retinal Atrophy. His night sight is very bad right now, and over time he will lose all sight.
We know there are unique adopters out there that would love the opportunity to provide Charley with the loving home he needs.

A foster family that has taken care of Charley says:
We had Charley for seven weeks. He LOVES going for walks and doing zoomies in the fenced in area. He will bark once to ask for out but is otherwise quiet. He has a hilarious dinner dance.
Good sleeper and greets you with a waggy tail every morning. Crate habits are excellent and considers the crate his man cave. He did not like other dogs in his home space but got along very well with 3 other greys outdoors in the dog run. He enjoyed meeting people.
He is a bouncy, happy dog with a lot of energy!
