Meet Charlene (Paws in Prison Participant)
Charlene, female lab mix, 3 1/2 years, totally vetted, microchipped and on heartworm preventative. Adoption fee $250
Charlene… the dog with a heart of gold and the appetite of Michael Phelps during Olympic training season. Weighing in at 84 pounds, she is just a teeny tiny bit (*cough* 10lbs.) overweight. Before Charlene found her way into the program, she didn’t get much exercise because her former owner had back issues. She also very much likes to eat human food. We’ve been told that she was used to being fed more people food than dog food. She has been known to counter surf and take off like a bandit with any food that’s left within her reach. If you tell Charlene to “Kroger”, she has been taught (not by the inmates, we promise) to roll over on her back and imitate a rotisserie chicken. One thing is for certain, this girl LOVES her food. Her trainers are working hard to get some of that extra poundage off of her, but for now there’s just a little bit more of her to love. Charlene is fine with other dogs and was fine with the neighbors school aged kids. She is not a cat lover, liker, or even noncommittal! She will need a fence to keep her safe, and walks well on a leash. Charlene, a whole lotta love and a lot to love!
WANT TO MEET THIS DOG? TO THE RIGHT, CHOOSE "MORE ABOUT US", AND CLICK ON APPLICATION Charlene is in the Paws in Prison program where dogs receive obedience training. This dog is expected to graduate from Paws in Prison on July 15. . The dogs in this program are trained under the AKC Canine Good Citizen standards and are specifically selected to be family and companion dogs. They spend 24 hours a day with their trainers. For that reason, they will do best in homes where they are primarily inside dogs and spend lots of time with their families. The adoptive family will receive their training journal. This journal documents everything from entering the facility, daily training progress, and interactions with trainers.
