Meet Champ

Champ is very friendly; he loves everyone! He is an energetic fellow and would do great with an active family with older kids. He’s a bit goofy since he’s so big and he thinks he is a small dog that fits in your lap. He just wants to be near his people all the time.

Champ loves to swim and it’s hard to keep him out the pool. He swims back and forth the length of the pool with me AFTER I play with him and his toys. He loves frisbee type toys and toys that squeak. He will squeak a toy for hours if you let him.

We feed Champ in his crate otherwise he eats his food and everyone else’s. However, he doesn’t like to be locked in when he eats. I close the door and he noses it open just a bit so he knows he can get out.

Champ has been working on basic obedience cues. He focuses well when he is training alone. He is definitely food motivated. Champ is around 18 months old and weighs about 78 pounds. He is house trained and crate trained.

If Champ wants you to play or if he wants to come in from outside, he will bark persistently. Other than that, Champ is well-behaved. He doesn’t jump on people but he has taken to grabbing his toy from your hand. We are working with him on not doing that. He would be very easy to take to the ballpark as long as he is trained to sit and stay and not chase the ball! LOL.

Champ goes for walks around other people. He has also been to pet friendly restaurants. He needs to have eaten first and be full before he goes [GRIN]. Also bring a chew toy with you.

I have an 86 year old mother who is not steady on her feet. Champ used to be a little rough when near her but has learned to be very gentle near her and she braces herself sometimes on his back to walk and he makes sure he walks slowly for her.

Champ would be great at having a job to do. He is very active especially first thing in the morning. He plays very well with other dogs and if they get rough with him he tries to lick them or walks off and gives them their space. Champ has not been around cats but Champ is very gentle so he may be okay.
