"My name's Cedar, nice to meetcha! As you can see I am the handsomest boy, but someone wise once said there may be more to life than being really, really ridiculously good looking. I aim to learn more about what that might be!"
Cedar will do best in a home with breed and training experience. He has typical ACD herding instincts and a high prey drive (he's a little too interested in chickens and other small critters, and will try to herd feet and hands). He is uncomfortable with restraint and some handling, and will use his mouth to let you know when he's unhappy about something, so kids are not a good fit for him. He has become much more comfortable in these areas with time and training in his foster home, but it is definitely something his new family will need to continue working on.
A country boy at heart, Cedar is most at home in the woods. He finds the hustle and bustle of high traffic areas, car traffic, etc to be very frightening right now, and will need a patient owner willing to put in the work to build his confidence and show him the world isn't so scary. He's made some great progress in his foster home, and continued work and training is a must for him to thrive. Cedar wants to be able to enjoy and experience the world, not live in fear of it!
Cedar is a super intelligent, active pup who loves to work with his human. He's super food motivated which makes him fun to train! He loves using his nose; he enjoys his snuffle mat and has shown interest in nosework. He would also excel in obedience based sports such as Rally-O. Mental work is the key to tiring this dude out! He'll entertain himself for a bit playing with toys, but ultimately he wants attention from you. Cedar has been diagnosed with mild unilateral hip dysplasia, which means that while he's still able to do things like hike and play his adopter should be mindful of not pushing him too hard. Keeping his leg muscles strong, his body at a good weight, and utilizing a joint supplement will all help him stay healthy!
Cedar is approximately 2 years old and 47lbs. He is house- and crate-trained, and is microchipped, neutered, and up to date on vaccinations/preventatives. He is social with other dogs and does well with an evenly matched playmate, but does need guidance in recognizing and responding to other dogs' signals. Check out #CedarSeeks on Instagram and Facebook for more pictures, and please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions! Cedar is being fostered in Marshfield, MA and needs to meet his potential family prior to adoption to ensure a great fit.
