My name is Cecilia, and I am roughly 4 years old. I am a female black lab/border collie mix. I was brought to the Humane Society back in December in dire need of some help. I was found on the highway outside of Troy with some pretty big wounds all over my body. Luckily a very nice couple found me, and brought me to the shelter. I was scared, nervous, and hurting. The nice staff at HSoP offered me a warm bed, a bowl of food, and soft pets. I was still in shock from the trauma I had endured, so I was very guarded with new people.
The staff took me to the vet clinic the next morning, and they decided I needed emergency surgery to clean out my laceration wounds. I had to have stitches and drains placed to help my wounds heal correctly. The staff was so soft and kind while they helped me through recovery, so I like to thank them daily with hugs and kisses!
Since my recovery, I have shown some severe signs of separation anxiety. Luckily the staff lets me hang out with them in the office during the afternoons, so that I don't have to be alone. The staff currently has me on a mood stabilizer to help me with my anxiety, and they recommend that I continue on this medication when I transition into my new home. It really helps me stay calm.
I tend to get pretty nervous meeting new people. The staff thinks this is partly because of my anxiety, and partly because I wasn't socialized very much as a puppy. I tend to bark and hide when strangers approach me. I don't mean to appear aggressive or rude, I'm still learning my manners and the proper way to meet new people. HSoP is helping me by introducing me to new things, and showing me that I have nothing to be afraid of.
I am looking for someone who is understanding and patient. Someone who is willing to take a little extra time to get to know me. I can be the sweetest friend ever, but I need to trust you before I show you that side of me. I promise to be your bestest friend ever, and to always love you unconditionally. I promise to keep all of your secrets, and always understand and support you. I have a huge heart, and I am looking for a loving family to share it with.
If you are interested in meeting me, please contact HSoP beforehand, as they are trying different ways to introduce me to new people so that I am more comfortable meeting you.
