Meet Cassius & Gabe

Hello everyone! Our names are Cassius and Gabe. Someone dropped us off on a back road in Indiana at the beginning of October 2021. Someone sent our picture to LWR and they brought us into their rescue. At first, they thought I, Cassius, was a Weim because my head looks like one, but my body fur is more like a lab. So, I guess you would call me a Weim/lab mix! I weigh 60 lbs. Gabe looks to be some type of “doodle”. LWR does not think he is a Goldendoodle because his hair is wirier. They think he may be a Wolfhound/doodle. He is not as big as a Wolfhound though. He weighs 80 bs. We get along very well and would like to find a forever home together if possible. If we cannot, then we will have to have homes with other active dogs. We are currently being fostered in Charlestown, IN with three other dogs. We are very friendly with them. However, we will NOT be able to live with cats. There is an outside cat here and we go CRAZY when we see him.

We are up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. We are heartworm negative and started on prevention. We are both estimated around 1 year-old. We love to play and wrestle together. We can get rough sometimes inside the house. We ride well in the car as long as we are together. We were recently neutered and may still have accidents in the house so will need to be watched carefully and not be able to wander in the house without supervision until we know what door to ask to go out. We are very smart and tying a bell on the door and teaching us to ring it to go out would be good. We also know how to use a dog door. We are crated together while our foster parents are at work during the day. We like to be outside so we will need a fenced in yard. However, we live inside the house with our family. We like to patrol around the yard to make sure there are no creatures invading. We love to snuggle up to our humans TOGETHER?. We sleep on top of each other most of the time. If you are a runner, we would be good with this, and it will help us burn off some energy.

We will need obedience training, but remember we are smart and learn fast. We need a chance just like all dogs do. We are not born knowing anything! We haven’t been around children but are very friendly. Of course, we like food so that would need to be something to watch if there are children in the house.

Gabe has been found to have had some type of trauma to the right side (if you are looking at him) of his head. His jaw has been broken, but it doesn’t hinder him from eating or anything. The vet stated that he could not see out of his right eye, and it may need to be removed later in his life. I heard our foster mom state he has an appointment to see something called a canine Ophthalmologist soon to find out everything.

Again, we would like to find a forever home together if possible. We will need time to settle in and may make mistakes in the house during this time. We learn very quickly though and will love you more than anything. Please think about us for a day or two and if you cannot get us out of your head, please go to LWR’s website and complete an adoption application. Once they have received your application, a nice volunteer will give you a call. We are looking forward to starting our new lives!
