Meet Carlton - pure love

It was the end of his life. The last week, the last day and the very last hour for little Carlton… Curled in a shaking ball in the farthest corner of his dark cage he was crying silently. What else could he do? What else was left for him? No time left, no hope – just a paralyzing terror and a black desperation. He was not taking his eyes from the door, his heart was sinking every time he heard some steps. Long gone were the times, when at the beginning every time hearing some steps coming close he was running to this door, tail wiggling crazy! He was running full of hope that it’s his Mom finally coming to his rescue… But days passed by and his mom never came…Little Carlton stopped running toward the door, but started crying for his dear Mommy. All those days he cried for her to come and save him. Even though his hope shrank more and more with every passing day, he still hopped that maybe if not today, than maybe tomorrow the door would open and his mom would be there to take him back home. And one day his hope just died. Somehow he realized that his mom would never come back for him, and that now he is left by himself in this huge terrifying world…And he also found out that something very terrible wold happen to him. You know, dogs cannot talk, but they can communicate with each other without using words. Little Carlton learned that the steps that he heard every day were not of Moms and Dads who were coming to get their dear canine kids. But those steps belong to a complete strangers who was coming to take the dogs to a very terrible place called euthanasia. Little Carlton didn’t know what euthanasia meant, but no dog had returned back, after going to euthanasia…And this scary euthanasia was now after him. Of course Carlton was scared and of course he was shaking and crying. He missed his Mom terribly and he also didn’t understand why he got here in the first place. What did he do wrong? He was trying to be a good kid – he loved his Mom, he listened to her and was very obedient. He was completely housetrained. He was not demanding and was very polite and friendly… So why was he here, in this terrible place awaiting euthanasia? Little did he know, there was not anything wrong about him. Carlton himself was not the reason he ended up at a killer shelter. Simply his Mom got Alzheimer and went to a nursing home forever. There was nobody left to take care of Carlton, there wouldn’t be anybody who would come to his rescue…
It is very strange how the life of this little boy has been an intricate chain of misfortune and luck. Carlton was born at a breeder’s place as a designer’s breed dog. He is a mix of Yorkie and Chihuahua. Such puppies were sold for a really high price. Other puppies, but Carlton. He was born bow legged. Yes, he has been born with a deformity and for that reason he would have been euthanaized in the first place. But one nice lady took pity on a such misfortuned dog and was able to fall in love with Carlton. She was able to see beyond his crooked hind legs. She saw a really sweet little puppy who was really wise and lovable, like many other leaving beings that were born with some disability. She saw how much Carlton appreciated his life and how much he would be able to love. She was not able to resist this little kid. So instead of being euthanaized, Carlton went to live in a very great home with a loving Mom, who simply adored him. And when his life looked like a happily ever after, everything had changed in the blink of an eye. Carlton’s Mom was placed in a nursing home and he ended up in a killer shelter. You know the rest. What hope does a little dog with bow legs have? Less than zero. It is a really cruel statement, but it’s the truth. This is why little Carlton was huddled in the corner of his cage awaiting the inevitable. This is why he was laying on the cold floor and shaking badly from horror constantly looking at the doors with mixed feelings of the last bit of hope and a suffocating terror… He heard some steps coming closer and closer, the door had opened… Little Carlton shut his eyes as tight as possible – not wanting to face the horror of what will be going next…
After an eternity (actually about a half of a minute), when there were no pain, he cautiously opened his eyes and saw a new unknown face. It was not his Mom, but the new lady was nice and not scary at all. At this moment of new hope, little Carlton felt such a relief. Yes, Carlton was saved at the very last moment and was out of danger!
Now he lives in our group. He is still a bit nervous and shy, but considering all that he has gone through, he is doing extremely well. He went for a sleep over to a foster home and impressed his foster parents with his exemplary behavior. He was very quiet, polite, and obedient. It was heartbreaking to see how he tried really hard to impress the foster folks and to be liked by them. He immediately befriended three other dogs – all senior grumpy Chihuahuas, who are very difficult to please. But somehow he was able to win their sympathy. And his crooked hind legs are not any problem at all! You should see how fast Carlton can run because nothing can stop him! Steps are not a problem for him. Actually, Carlton doesn’t know that something is not completely right with him. He himself thinks that he is just fine, especially since he is now out of a killer shelter and had escaped euthanasia! He is happy to be alive and he wants to live every minute of his life to the fullest extend. The only one thing that is missing in his life is a loving home. Little Carlton is so ready to give his big loving heart to his new owner! He wants to love and to be loved so desperately! If you take him home you will be amazed at how loyal he is. He will literally follow you everywhere – eyes constantly on you, stopping when you stop, picking up the speed when you start walking again. He will be your shadow. He will watch all your moves, trying to figure out what you would like next and ready to please you. And whenever you pick him up – he will kiss you and hug you and be happy to curl in you lap. With Carlton you will find such deep love that is so often only described in books, but is so rare in real life! Little Carlton will give you the most priceless gift: his endless love!
