Meet Carlitos! Carlitos’ passions in life include belly rubs, long walks, squirrel watching and playing with his toys. Stuffies are his favorite and he loves to bring them everywhere he goes. Napping is kinda his thing and he’s made a full time career out of lounging. Overall, Carlitos is a sweet, independent boy that’s looking for a low key family who will respect his need for space when he feels like doing his own thing. Once he feels comfortable in his environment, Carlitos loves to cuddle up on the couch with his trusted humans and will paw at you for belly rubs and cuddles. Each morning he greets his foster mum excitedly with love and kisses.
Carlitos’ ideal living scenario is in a low traffic, adult-only home in a quiet neighbourhood. Country livin’ would be right up this guy’s ally! He does best with structure and a consistent routine and would benefit from a family that will invest the time and effort in creating a trusting relationship. Ideally, they will also have some dog experience and an understanding of dog etiquette/body language. Carlitos has low tolerance for bad manners (amen to that) and might voice his displeasure with a growl or grumble.
Carlitos requires proper introductions to new people and dogs and his forever family should be prepared to allow him the time and space he needs to feel safe and comfortable. He plays nicely with some dogs, especially outside, but can be choosy about his dog pals and so we think he’d be most successful as the only pet.
He’s lower energy and would do fine with a few 20 min walks per day plus potty breaks and/or backyard time. Due to an old fracture, Carlitos walks with a bit of limp and although he still sometimes gets bursts of puppy energy, exercise restriction would be best. Xrays have revealed that amputation that his discomfort can be managed with a pain medication (approx. $75/month) and a daily glucosamine supplement. On leash, he is generally very polite provided his space is respected. If new people approach to pet or talk to him he may bark or growl.
Carlitos is a smart boy, potty trained and a perfect gentleman in the house. He is crate trained and settles quickly and easily. He has some basic obedience skills down pat and would love a family that would be willing to put the time and effort into teaching him some new tricks. He would benefit from a confident, patient handler that understands the nothing in life is free training philosophy. We get it! It’s hard not to get sucked in by that big beautiful smile, but the way to his heart is through leadership and mutual respect. To ensure Carlitos and his new family are set up for success, Fetch & Releash will donate his adoption fee towards training with a positive reinforcement based trainer.
